The position is for a Data Analyst and Data Visualization professional to join our Digital Analytics Team for a Federal Agency customer. We're looking for an experienced Analyst with strengths in team collaboration, critical thinking and effective communication skills.
This position will be responsible for working collaboratively within a team to formulate and iteratively develop data models. Candidates must possess an active Secret security clearance.
Candidates must be experienced and proficient in:
RStudio, R programming language
Creating visualizations in multiple visualizations tools including Tableau and R
Conducting statistical analysis using a variety to statistical tools of platforms including R
Visualization tools including Tableau
Developing dashboards and reports that incorporate metrics and accurately represent the effectiveness of the organization
Proficiency in C++ is also preferred
Building conceptual models to show problem solving methodology
Building statistical models in order to identify significant variables in a process
Collaboratively developing useful analytic models and methodologies and assist in incorporating into decision making processes
Developing effective data visualizations and data understanding activities
Assessing metrics and their effectiveness in managing performance
Developing reporting capabilities that inform on the effective use of the data
Strong collaboration skills, able to be effective at all organizational levels; users, team members and management
Analyst must be able to transform data and analysis into informative data visualizations and/or interactive dashboards using open source and commercially available visualization and dashboard tools.
Demonstrate the ability to derive insights and analytic narratives from data and visualizations for effective storytelling and clear communication in response to specific research questions.
Location: This position is in Washington DC.
Candidates must live within the Washington DC area. Relocation expenses are not included.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Data Visualization Specialist is an innovative, visual storyteller who takes story narratives and enhances the experiences for the audience; the stories are made easier to understand, more informative, and more immersive. Sharp journalism and programming skills are required, as well as staying on top of the latest trends in digital media. Visualization Specialists also demonstrate abilities to conceptualize and build data visualizations, interactive graphics, and news apps. The work requires experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript (jQuery and D3); an understanding of responsive design and proficiency with interaction design and user interfaces; and familiarity with mining and manipulating data and web scraping. Responsibilities include producing daily and project-based digital journalism that will appear on our websites as well as being integrated into other McClatchy publishing products. Visualization Specialists also must learn our Content Management Systems (CUE, NewsGate, Content Studio), as well as Adobe Creative Cloud apps (Photoshop, Illustrator). A motivated, collegial work style is a must, as is a desire to learn and teach about new forms of storytelling. A strong background in journalism is preferred. Responsibilities: * - Conceive and build interactive data visualizations; work with reporters to tease out the best stories to tell from a given dataset * - Break down complex, multi-part investigations into digestible pieces for audience through innovative story-telling devices that visually summarize large concepts * - Build new forms of story-telling devices to illustrate ideas that aren't best communicated with text alone * - Keep abreast of trends in digital story-telling, as well as programming techniques * - Stay current with McClatchy CMS tools * - Collaborate with reporters, designers, and editors * - Create tools to assist with reporting REQUIREMENTS Education: BA, BS, or BFA in computer science, design, statistics, journalism or a related field Experience and Skills Needed: * - 1+ years of professional experience * - Portfolio of data visualizations / code builds that demonstrate strength in theory and implementation * - Strong problem solving, communication and presentation skills Specific Required Experience: * - Front-end development with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (and associated helper libraries such as jQuery and D3) * - Responsive interactive graphics using D3.js * - Online mapping libraries (such as Google maps, Cartodb, Mapbox, Leaflet) and experience with GIS programs (such as ArcMap, QGIS) * - Ability to meet deadlines and work on deadline * - Clean, concise, readable code; good annotation habits Preferred Experience: * - Clean and analyze data using Microsoft Excel, SQL, R, Python, Ruby, or others * - Web application frameworks (such as Django, Rails, or others) * - Git and Github * - Graphic design, UX/UI design Personal Attributes: Energy, flexibility, and motivation to crush the competition.
