Job Summary:

As a member of the data science team, solves complex problems using data analysis techniques throughout the entire data life cycle. Works with public and proprietary data to find new methods of data integration where relationships are often obscured. Designs repeatable and optimized workflows using SQL, python, and other scripting and programming languages to clean, transform, and prepare data for reporting. Uses visualization tools to assist with data validation, mining, pattern identification, and report building. Prepare and deliver oral or written presentations on findings from analyses. This position typically works under general supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.


Essential Job Duties and

Responsibilities:
  • Filters, cleans, and prepares large data sets for more advanced transformations.

  • Performs statistical analyses, develops new performance metrics, benchmarks, and indices.

  • Develops and documents new data models, ERDs, schemas, and data workflows.

  • Validates and controls the quality of produced data sets.

  • Researches, interprets and performs quantitative and qualitative analysis against transportation data on topics such as urban mobility, land use, growth management, demographic studies, economic development and housing.

  • Participates on project teams to develop new reporting and analysis tools and workflows.

  • Analyzes client information needs and business challenges to determine how they may be addressed through the delivery of customized decision support tools and services.

  • May interact with external customers .

  • Applies understanding of global and/or local trends and events (e.g., economics, social issues) to assist with the formulation of hypotheses and interpretation of data.

  • Stays current with technical and industry developments, analytics software/tools, and recognized best practices.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Four year university degree in computer science, statistics, economics, mathematics, operations research, informatics, or related field plus a minimum of two years of experience in a business analyst role. Master's degree in a related discipline is a plus. Experience in developing data warehouses, performing data analysis, database management, data integration, ETL, or similar roles required. Experience with SQL and using Access, MySQL, Oracle, and other RDMS required. Experience with Python, R, Hadoop, HQL, Pig, Oozie, Tableau, Qlikview/Qliksense preferred. Strong analytical and problem solving skills, attention to detail, critical thinking ability, and creativity required. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills used to effectively communicate and clearly present complex information in a manner appropriate to the audience. Prior experience working in the transportation or logistics industries is a plus.

As part of the team, you will: Lead and coordinate analysis and supporting process flows to collect, build, enrich, and manage information relating to the market use of CPT, producing consistent, accurate, and timely analysis of metrics and key performance indicators, scorecards, and trending reports that lead to informed business decisions. You will also develop recommendations regarding data sources and analytical approach aligned with HS Compliance business and financial objectives. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provide analyses and recommendations, and defined reporting and dashboards, based on HS business needs * Gather input from stakeholders and translate customer needs into clear design requirement documents * Recommend customized analytic project design to meet customer needs, including articulating optimal analytic design approach to customers and anticipating business needs * Analyze and develop reports on data quality, business rule adherence and data fitness of use * Make recommendations to select appropriate sources of market data and optimize data collection and analysis efforts via statistical targeting of market data * Communicate analysis rationale and business implications of results to all levels of the organization * Create, customize, and maintain reporting capabilities to support business users * Initiate and conduct data analysis when necessary, providing reports on procured data * Customize analytical reporting to be digestible given the audience through usage of visualizations and dashboards * Utilize technical acumen to automate reports over time and eliminate unnecessary manual processes * Identify opportunities to adopt or improve reporting capabilities and supporting processes * Investigate and adopt innovative techniques or new tools where appropriate * Work with management, colleagues, and third parties to recommend improvements in the quality of data and processes utilized by internal/external business partners * May include other responsibilities as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: * Bachelor's degree in a field with emphasis on quantitative and statistical analysis: may include finance, digital marketing analytics, or technical fields; advanced degree in a field requiring quantitative analysis preferred * 5+ prior experience in data analysis; familiarity with conventional analytical tools, such as Power BI, SPSS/SAS, Tableau, advanced Excel tools such as data tables and regression, etc. * Able to manage and integrate insights and establish monitoring around multiple internal data sources, such Enterprise Data Warehouse, customer database and purchased/appended data if available * Demonstrated experience with SQL in the extraction and manipulation of datasets (building queries) * Strong statistical analysis capabilities, including programming automate processes for data collection and cleansing, analysis, and reporting; R or Python preferred * Knowledge of databases, warehouses and reporting software, including data integrity, report design, ability to understand and maintain SQL code (e.g. Aquadata Studio) * Ability to communicate and collaborate at all levels of the organization to gather requirements and document analysis and recommendations, including technical processes and analysis and business impact of findings * Prioritizes tasks to complete work within deadlines as business needs change * Collaborates with colleagues and third-parties to ensure deliverables are available when needed or adapt analysis as required The AMA offers competitive salaries, including an incentive plan; excellent benefits and progressive technology.
