This newly defined role will be part of a core team that is focused on building out an enterprise data warehouse for our rapidly growing commercial insurance company. The person in this role will have the opportunity to engage with colleagues in numerous other departments in the company to understand sources of data as well as the wide variety of uses of data, including financial reporting and data-driven analytics.


  • Perform data profiling and analysis on internal and external data sets in order to inform requirements, perform testing, and support production processing.

  • Create business requirements to define capabilities for data selection, transformation, collection and distribution.

  • Develop test scenarios for validating the quality of data capabilities.

  • Perform testing necessary to validate that developed solutions align with defined business requirements.

  • Contribute toward root cause analysis of data related defects.

  • Collaborate with colleagues in areas sourcing data and consuming data to align expectations as part of developing requirements, creating and executing test plans and to effectively support production processing.

  • Collaborate with IT partners on solution design within assigned tasks.

  • Develop a deep understanding of data required for operational, analytic and reporting functions of a property & casualty insurance company.

  • Complete special projects as assigned by manager and perform other duties as requested.


  • Strong analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking skills

  • Insurance industry experience, especially P&C or workers' compensation, preferred but not required

  • Some actuarial experience, exposure or understanding preferred but not required

  • Ability to operate in fast paced environment

  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in written form.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Mathematics, Finance or another quantitative subject.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and Access.

  • Familiarity and experience with querying tools (e.g. Cognos, SAS, SQL)

What you're good at In this role, you will lead analyses, serve as an internal strategy consultant to key business partners, and create high-impact analytical models to drive business forward with various products and platforms. * Consult with business partners to understand needs and goals beyond the initial "ask", as well as to establish critical path and timelines * Develop high-impact analyses quantifying the impact of key business initiatives * Communicate methodologies and results through compelling, clear visualizations and simplify and present complex concepts to a non-technical audience * Collaborate with team members across data functions including data engineers, data scientists and analysts to deliver best-in-class solutions What you bring Analysis: you know the difference between correlation and causation and the right analytical methods to prove causality when needed, estimate it when you can't, or choose a simpler approach because you don't need it. Programming: you know how to create repeatable, accurate analysis in your favorite tool among R or Python. Data wrangling: you are comfortable writing complex SQL queries from scratch that blend data from dozens of sources into the right form for analysis, visualization, or reporting. What you have * B.S. degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering or similar quantitative field * 5+ years' of experience in a data engineering, analytics or data science role * Comfort with SQL and Python, R, or SAS * Desire to learn all aspects of big data and analytics projects including scoping business requirements, wrangling data, approaching business problems with analytic rigor, developing reusable data products and visualizing data to surface insights that drive business value and impact.
