Our Clinical Informatics group is growing. This team is responsible for the evaluation of variants that go into our reports. We investigate unique genetic signals, run analyses across thousands of patient samples to assess assay performance, and continually improve our processes through software development as the volume and complexity of our offerings grow. All of our work directly impacts patient's results, making solving problems both motivating and rewarding. This role is very interdisciplinary and involves collaboration with the bioinformatics pipeline team, clinical genetics experts, laboratory scientists, R&D scientists, and laboratory directors.

For our junior scientists, they will gain knowledge on a wide array of genomics technologies while doing meaningful work. For our senior scientists, they will be carrying out independent projects and providing mentorship.

What you will bring:

  • 3+ years experience with NGS data analysis in either academic or industry environment

  • Familiarity with common NGS alignment, variant calling, and visualization tools

  • Proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Python (preferred), Perl, Java, Ruby, or C/C++

  • Strong knowledge of clinical genetics

  • Preferred: PhD or Master's degree in bioinformatics or related field

  • Preferred: Familiarity with SQL databases and version control tools

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Position requires availability either normal local business hours M-F (with occasional weekend duties) or a shifted schedule of Su-Th or Tu-Sa.

Our goal is to transform the research IT experience to accelerate scientific innovation. The position will have overall accountability for capabilities to enable data scientists within Discovery, Preclinical and Early Development to leverage experimental data for novel scientific insights, providing the foundation of our mission to discovery and develop therapeutics that change the course of human health. These capabilities include scientific data management that drives creation of analytics-ready data; an analytics operating environment that supports the data volume and computational requirements of complex analytics across diverse scientific domains; and data engineering, computer science, and informatics capabilities to enable scientists to explore, develop and apply emerging analytics and visualizations. The position will manage a global organization of approximately 20 direct and matrixed reports and will be and a key leader within the data science cluster in our Boston/Cambridge research center and IT partner for data intensive research functions globally, including cheminformatics, genomics, pharmacogenetics, and systems biology, Key responsibilities include: * Provide executive leadership for end-to-end capabilities to enable a data-sciences-based research strategy, including high performance computing, machine learning, model management, data engineering, data visualization. * Define, implement and enhance data management processes, standards, governance and organizational change essential to drive analytics outcomes. * Build and develop data and analytics skill sets and literacy across the enterprise. * Serve as a scientific analytics translator and thought leader for Research IT CSL's and business partners. * Connect scientific analytics efforts and communities within research, and across the broader enterprise * Provide thought leadership to enterprise data and analytics platforms and services teams, influencing enterprise capabilities by representing scientific use cases, requirements and critical outcomes. * Directly responsible for $15-20M IT budget. Travel will be required (~30%).
