Conducts research related to fiscal, technical, management, or public policy issues. Researches, collects and compiles information or data, searches references, prepares abstracts, constructs bibliographies, and assists in analyzing results and drafting reports.
May require statistical testing and manipulation of data. May manage web site content for data exchange, as well as research and document preparation to support data exchange initiatives. May update databases to facilitate research and track trends.
Assists in maintaining the organization's database. Modifies database management systems applications that are small and/or less complex in nature. Refers complex projects to higher-level staff for review.
May conduct statistical analyses on data from product, technical, scientific, or policy research using established statistical methodology. Analyzes results; compiles summaries, charts, and tables for inclusion with study reports. Re-designs/improves existing test methods and metrics.
Coordinates schedules, meeting locations, and/or logistics for project/program teams. Assists in gathering and organizing documentation for project team, program or work unit. May answer inquiries via phone or email and utilize best practices and work unit procedures to relay answers.
Resolves minor issues and escalates more complex issues to a senior colleague or manager. Applies general knowledge and principals of function to solve problems and complete work. Receives guidance and instruction from supervisor and higher level staff. Develops competence by performing structured work assignments.

This position provides a unique opportunity to join the new Medical Education Research unit at the Association of American Medical Colleges. The Medical Education Research team works to advance medical education and medical education scholarship by developing and leading a research program focused on assessing educational outcomes across the continuum of education. The unit collaborates with colleagues and constituents to develop and implement research priorities and identifies opportunities for data sharing and collaborative research,
In this role, you will support innovate research projects including the creation of a national medical education outcomes database. You will work closely with the Senior Director for Medical Education Research and the Senior Research Analyst to accomplish this work.
Specific responsibilities include:
Managing data bases for the Medical Education Research unit including data entry, merging, and validation.
Creating and maintain documented code libraries for routine deliverables.
Run standard and ad hoc data reports as needed for the research program.
Preparing presentations and reports based on data from internally generated surveys, other AAMC-acquired data, or analyses performed on behalf of the AAMC by external consultants.
Work with AAMC staff across clusters internally to support ad hoc analysis and reporting needs.
What will you bring to the role?
Bachelor's degree in similar field with 0-2 years of related work experience. Master's degree in math, statistics, economics, epidemiology, health services research, or related quantitative discipline preferred.
Proven quantitative analysis skills including knowledge of basic statistics and research methods, particularly as applied to large datasets.
Experience writing code within SPSS (preferred), Stata, or other comparable statistical programming application, to create and manipulate large datasets and to analyze data.
Ability to independently validate integrity of data and results.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Ability to create meaningful data presentations in Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
Must be a self-starter, detail-oriented, well-organized and reliable in timely fulfillment of responsibilities
If a bachelor's degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
