Job Summary

The Dairy/Frozen Manager is responsible for the successful operation and profitability of the dairy/frozen department as well as training, directing and monitoring all department staff. Department Managers are responsible for the success of their own department and are required to fulfill the duties of the Manager on Duty (MOD) on a scheduled basis.


Key Responsibilities include the following essential functions, but are not limited to:

  • Providing World Class Customer Service as a number one priority.

  • Exemplifying integrity, responsibility, and excellence and adhering to all policies.

  • Creating inviting, full and shopable departments.

  • Ordering for the dairy/frozen department, including deli and meat, and maintaining accurate inventory levels.

  • Managing margin, COGs and overall department profitability including minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing.

  • Ensuring all in-stock products/conditions meet company standards.

  • Offering and following up on special orders.

  • Merchandising shelves, endcaps and dynamic displays.

  • Managing and participating in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock.

  • Training and monitoring department personnel including assigning and following up on tasks.

  • Working with other department managers to cross-train staff to accomplish all needed tasks.

  • Conducting active and passive demos.

  • Assisting in interviewing and hiring for department needs.

  • Working with the store manager to address performance and/or disciplinary issues within the department.

  • Opening and closing of store, including DSR and the closing cash process.

  • Handling register functions including backup cashiering, managing customer returns, addressing customer complaints, and covering register shift changes, including those for scheduled breaks.

  • Maintaining the safety and security of customers and employees.

  • Answering customer questions per company standards and policies, including the use of Structure/Function statements and/or statements of nutritional support.

  • Continually increasing product knowledge.

  • Using SAP and inventory management software, running and analyzing reports on BEx, emailing and utilizing other IS programs as needed.

  • Working a schedule based on store needs which includes evenings, weekends, holidays. Position requires working five days, 40 hours per week and attending mandatory store meetings.

Although this is a general outline of job responsibilities all employees are expected to be ''hands on'' and do whatever it takes to get the job done and make the company thrive.


Education, Skills & Experience

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.

  • 1-2 years of experience in retail experience in a grocery or retail environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.

  • 1-2 years of experience supervising others preferred.

  • Ability to pass food safety training courses and/or certifications as required by law and maintain compliance by keeping certifications up to date and registered if applicable.

  • Ability to manage changing priorities and to stay focused with the task at hand.

  • Sense of urgency in the completion of tasks.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Highly organized with great attention to detail.

  • Ability to take direction and follow through.

  • Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Develop priorities and make assignments to section employees; plan and develop goals and objectives of section employees; supervise and evaluate employees; provide leadership, discipline, training and guidance to employees; ensure activities comply with department policies, procedures and standards. Approximately 20 percent of the time will be spent on this duty. Conduct Scoping Studies to Provide Accurate Cost Estimates for the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP): Perform on site visits to verify mainframe data; develop the purpose and need for the scoping decision document; identify the existing conditions surrounding the project; Determine if there are any drainage issues, environmental impacts, or wetland mitigation measures to be aware of; identify project cost history of the existing project; identify and discuss any clear zone issues associated with the project; discuss proposed alternatives to be considered for the project; develop estimates for the proposed alternatives; coordinate alternatives with District Engineers and Office Holders; arrange and administer meetings to discuss decision documents and get a necessary signatures from the Deputy Director of Engineering; make distribution of the decision document. Approximately 40 percent of the time will be spent on this duty. Coordinate the Development, Evaluation, and Future Direction of the NDDOT Scoping Process to Keep Up To Date with Department Needs: Ensure that the division's scoping process supports the mission and vision of the NDDOT Strategic Business Plan, the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, and management objectives; keep management, engineering divisions, and districts informed of the new pavement management technology applications as well as advances in pavement management theory and practice; make recommendations to division management, district engineers, and office holders on new work items to improve the scoping process; prepare report of actual scoping projects bid compared to the Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) projected; prepare report of scoping costs to Environmental Document costs, to bid costs, to actual costs. Review and comment on Environmental Documents and attend field reviews for proposed construction projects as needed. Approximately 20 percent of the time will be spent on this duty. Coordinate and Attend Interstate and Interregional Reviews to Gather Information to be Used in the Development of the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP): Prepare all review booklets and paperwork before, during and after the reviews; coordinate with all appropriate members of the review to schedule the reviews; work with Office Holders to prepare final review documents for signature; compare review recommendations to the pavement management system recommendations. Approximately 10 percent of the time will be spent on this duty. Assist Traffic Operations Section as Needed to Assist in Their Workload: Assist with Traffic Operations studies for department; assist with general Traffic Operations activities as assigned by the Traffic Operations Engineer. Approximately 10 percent of the time will be spent on this duty. Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering; four years of professional-level engineering work experience; and Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of ND. Requires satisfactory completion of the interview process and a verifiable record of satisfactory performance in previous employment.
