Mission or Goal of Unit: Our mission is to provide high-quality, cost-effective pathology services in a manner that supports the patient care, education, and research missions of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System and School of Medicine.
Chief Purpose of this position: The Department of Pathology at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System seeks a full-time Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor, non-tenure track, in the Division of Anatomic Pathology, with primary duties in Cytopathology and Surgical Pathology (Head and Neck primarily).
Position Responsibilities:
- Clinical: Responsible for day-to-day sign-out of cases in an academic Cytopathology and Surgical Pathology (primarily Head and Neck Pathology) services. The Cytopathology and Surgical Pathology service encounters a wide variety of neoplastic and non-neoplastic cases.
- Service: Participation in tumor boards and other conferences with clinical colleagues is required. Participation in departmental, institutional and national committees when necessary.
- Teaching: Supervision of residents is required. Will also contribute to the education of residents, medical students, and ancillary staff. Participation in undergraduate and graduate education required.
- Research: Scholarship primarily in Cytopathology and Surgical Pathology through presentations at national meetings, developing clinical research collaborations, contributions to peer-reviewed scientific literature, active participation in appropriate professional organizations is required.
- The faculty member will report to and work closely with the Division Chair to further the mission and vision of the Department of Pathology.
Required Qualifications:
- MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree
- Board certification in Anatomic Pathology, or combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
- Fellowship training with board certification or eligibility in Cytopathology
- Training or experience in Surgical Pathology (Head and Neck fellowship desirable)
- Full, unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia
- Must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in Cytopathology and Surgical Pathology (primarily Head and Neck Pathology) with ability to provide coverage for a secondary Surgical Pathology service, if necessary.
- Clinical experience and an interest and/or ability in research and scholarly activity as displayed through publication in professional journals and presentations at national meetings.
