Duties

Summary

The Area of Consideration for this vacancy announcement is US citizens and Non-citizens within commuting area of Picatinny Arsenal OR individuals willing to move to this geographic location at their own expense and still able to commute to this location on a daily basis. (Military Spouse Preference (MSP) and Involuntarily Separated Military Preference (ISMP) eligible candidates are included in the area of consideration.) This position is located at Child and Youth Services, Picatinny Arsenal.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the operation of the Child and Youth Services (CYS) Homework Center / Technology Lab in accordance with applicable regulations.
As part of the on ratio staff, provides assistance to participants in strengthening their academic and learning skills, particularly in the areas of math, science, and English language (communication) skills.
Work with Youth Education Support Services staff to develop and implement a program to assist students in the completion of daily homework assignments, reinforce existing and develop new skills, and positively support children.
Provides care/supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with DoD, Army and local policies, guidance, and standards.
Develops linkages with parents, School Liaison Officer, other CYS Program Associates (such as working in the technology lab), and volunteer tutors to ensure homework center is fully integrated into all applicable program settings.
Makes suggestions to supervisor to on materials/equipment to extend learning opportunities beyond homework to include items such as dictionaries and other reference books, globes, maps, calculators, etc.
Maintains control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children and youth. Keeps abreast of school curriculum and supports school teacher/classroom initiatives.
Works cooperatively with trainer and supervisor to create a setting that provides areas/materials/methods for different styles of learning i.e., auditory, visual, etc. as well as desks/tables, soft areas, small individual and large group space.
Observes participants' progress in homework center. Continually reviews activities and plans for appropriateness.
Participates in conferences with parents, program staff, and school representatives. Plans and conducts activities for parents encouraging parents to become involved.
Works with senior staff to provide instruction and training to lower level employees on working in the homework center. Provides input to CYS training plan based on observed training needs.
Provides care/supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with DoD, Army and local policies, guidance, and standards.
Assist in designing and responsible for implementing an Educational Technology Program for youth 6-18 years of age.
Creates a positive environment in CYS Technology Lab that includes appropriate physical space, furnishings, wall displays, and resource materials and supplies to supplement computer software programs and Internet access.
Ensures the use of technology is integrated into activities and events in the facility to include The Army's School-Age and Youth Four Core Areas; incorporating baseline programming and implementation of Boys and Girls Clubs and 4-H Materials
Encourages participant interest and maintains an environment that promotes positive child and youth interactions with other children, youth, and adults.
Demonstrates proper work methods and provides work-related guidance to subordinates when required. Ensures computer, peripherals, and software are maintained in good condition and working order.
Troubleshoots CYS hardware, printers, scanners, servers and software. Informs CYS Functional Technology Specialist of any major repairs requiring professional expertise. Secures supplies, equipment, and facilities.
Monitors Internet use by children and youth to minimize risk of exposure to inappropriate content.
Trains children/youth in use of equipment and software programs. Assists in training employees and Family Child Care Providers in Basic Computer Skills as required.

Satisfactory performance, successful completion of training requirements (transition and/or annual) and demonstrated on the job competency is required.
Position requires working with computers, peripherals, software and common hand and electrical tools.
Failure to achieve desired training with demonstrated competence may result in separation.

Qualifications

Highly Preferred applicants will posses the following: Experience working with School Age/Youth (grades K-12/ages 5-18) with experience in technology programming AND homework assistance.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates must:
1.Be able to communicate in English (verbal and written)
2.Be 18 years of age at time of employment.
3.Possess and maintain ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
4.Possess and maintain health and freedom from communicable disease.
5.Possess knowledge and demonstrated skill in Microsoft Windows and Applications using the Internet (email, searching, web page design) and network computing.
?6. Possess a professional certificate or higher related to computer science/information technology,or 24 months of experience working in the related field.

This position is for a Shared Homework/Technology Lab. Position will have collateral duties as CYS Program Associate Homework Lab
