This vacancy will fill various instructor positions for Fort Bliss' SKIES program. The areas of instruction that will be filled on an as needed basis are:

  • Music

  • Gymnastics

  • Dance (Tap, Ballet, Jazz, etc)

  • Cheerleading

  • Judo

  • Swim

This announcement is announced as Best Qualified, based upon the areas of instruction. Applicants meeting both minimum qualifications and best qualified criteria based upon answers in assessment AND experience reflected in resume will be considered before candidates only reflecting minimum qualifications of the position in their resume.

Applicants must be able to work schedules based upon need for classes. Hours could range from 9:00am-1:00pm or 2:00pm-9:00pm, or could be split shifts. Applicants must be able to work weekends as needed for competitions and/or exhibitions.

Responsibilities
1.Serve as an Instructor for the SKIES Unlimited program. Develop lesson plans in accordance with professional recognized and accepted curriculum including scope and sequence of skills and indicate learning objectives of each session.
2.Provide instruction in swimming using a variety of techniques and interventions based on the age, skill level and learning style of each child. Provide recommendations in scheduling, class offerings (following ratios and downsize/create classes) and equipment/materials purchase to supervisor. Ensure that students are instructed in the proper technique for each skill and are under supervision at all times.
3.Comply with work schedule established by supervisor, to include regular office hours as well as teaching schedule
4.Maintains control of and accounts for the participant's safety. Keep attendance rolls up to date by checking roll at the beginning of every class session. Check phone and email addresses to ensure Child and Youth Management System (CYMS) is current.
5.Demonstrate MWR Customer Service elements when working with parents, students, coworkers and supervisors. Complete all Army, MWR and CYS training requirements

In addition to the above duties, specific areas of instruction may have additional duties such as:

Swim Instructors: Utilize National Red Cross guidelines.

Music Instructors: Conduct classes and teach children instruments such as Piano, Guitar, Violin, etc

Gymnastics Instructors: Teach Gymnastics lessons in accordance with USAG Olympic guidelines for parent and me classes, and Levels 1-10 in the development of lesson plans. Have professionally recognized and accepted curriculum in each lesson, including scope and sequence of skills and indicated learning objectives for students. Provide instruction in gymnastics using a variety of techniques and skills based on the age, skill level, and learning style of each child.

Dance Instructors: Teach appropriate dance (tap, ballet, jazz, etc) moves to children 18 months to 17 years of age. Manage a classroom of 8 or more children to include: take attendance, write incident reports, write lesson plans appropriate to age. Participate in team activities, working with other dance instructors to create a formal dance recital once and year, and informal dance recitals 3 times a year.

Tae Kwon Do Instructors: Oversee the preparation of individual for area competitive readiness. Keeping track of belts and records for belts and submitting the belts to national organization. Recognize student achievements and be responsible for at least on exhibition a year in which student will show case their skills.

Cheer Instructors: Utilize National Cheer Association guide lines in the development of lesson plans, utilizing United States of America Gymnastics (USAG) Olympic guidelines for level 1 through 10 in the development of lesson plans in a professionally recognized and accepted curriculum, including scope and sequence of skills and indicating learning objectives for each lesson. Oversee the preparation of individual routines for area competitive meets. Develop and choreograph routines to be performed, incorporating creativity and artistry with required and professionally accepted elements and guidelines.

Judo Instructors: Recognize students' achievements and be responsible for at least on exhibition a year in which student will showcase their skills.

3.Immunizations may be required as a condition of employment for the health and safety of those in the facility as determined by medical authority. Already immune individuals (based on documented receipt of vaccine series or physician diagnosed illness), or those subject to religious exemption, or medical contraindication are exempt from this requirement.

Qualifications

Experience meeting qualification requirements, whether it is minimum qualifications or best qualified criteria, MUST be reflected in resume to be considered eligible.

Minimum Qualifications:
1.Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
2.Be able to communicate in English (both written and verbal).
3.Be 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
4.Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop and stand on a routine basis. Duties may involve working both indoors and outdoors.
5.Possess and maintain health and freedom from communicable disease.
6.Demonstrated skill/evidence of competence in instructional area.

Preferred are those candidates who possess a Professional Certificates/Credentials; or Associates Degree or higher with 15 semester hours of college credit in the area of instruction.

Best Qualified Criteria:

  • work experience teaching the area of instruction to children ranging in 18 months - 17 years of age
  • (For Dance Instructors) at least two years experience in dance performance
  • (For Cheerleading Instructor) -experience in cheer coaching to include an understanding of fundamental gymnastics/basic tumbling and familiarity with National Cheer Association (NCA) rules
  • (For Judo Instructors) -a member of a nationally recognized Judo Federation
  • (For Music Instructors) -ability to teach more than one instrument
  • (For Swim Instructors) -a current nationally recognized swimming instructor certification (i.e Red Cross, YMCA, USA Swimming etc.)
  • (For Tae Kwon Do Instructors) - a current membership with a nationally recognized Tae Kwon Do association (World Tae Kwon Do, USA Tae Kwon Do) and at least a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do
  • (For Gymnastics Instructor) -at least once year participating in gymnastics
