This position prepares and instructs indoor cycling/spinning classes to youth, adults, and seniors. Ensures a safe and fun experience for all participants.

Work schedule includes Early Mornings, Evenings and Saturdays available. Specifically Thursday Mornings 5:45am-6:45am

JOB SUMMARY

Teaches indoor cycling/spinning classes to a variety of age groups. Coordinates and prepares music and choreography of class routines as necessary.

Exercises safety awareness and practices.

Provides a positive, fun, and safe experience to class participants.

Provides set-up and tear down of class equipment when applicable.

Follows and enforces all department policies, rules, and regulations while maintaining a friendly and professional attitude.

Handles and reports to the Recreation Supervisor Wellness and General Programs any problems, concerns, or emergencies that arise during their classes.

Assists Recreation Supervisor with evaluation of the program by providing feedback and recommendations for class/program improvement.

Responsible for securing a substitute when unable to work assigned class.

Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education diploma (GED). Minimum one year cycling/spinning teaching experience and/or training. Must hold a current CPR certification.

Must possess current certification in indoor cycling/spinning by a national accredited fitness-testing agency, i.e. Schwinn, Mad Dog, Johnny G, Precision Athletics, YMCA, Cycle Reebok, AFAA, AAAI/ISMA.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Current CPR certification.

Current certification in indoor cycling/spinning by a national accredited fitness-testing agency, i.e. Schwinn, Mad Dog, Johnny G, Precision Athletics, YMCA, Cycle Reebok, AFAA, AAAI/ISMA.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Must have excellent customer service skills. Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgment during stressful situations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be self-motivated and able to work independently. Ability to work well with people of all ages and abilities.

MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED

Mats, indoor bicycles, free weights, xertubes, tape player, CD player, headset, and microphone system.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; move fitness equipment including indoor bicycles; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to cycle, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and distance vision.

Work environment is primarily in an indoor setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

May be required to work at the indoor facility, the Golden Community Center or the outdoor facility, Splash Aquatic Park. Work schedule may include days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification or Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification required. Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain. If you do not currently have these Certifications, they can be obtained through the Golden Community Center Aquatics Department. JOB SUMMARY Instruct infant through adult swimming lessons Responsible for preparation for program activities; prepares lesson plans, organizes relative equipment, may be required to set-up and break-down materials used for instruction. Provide a safe environment and ensure the safety of all class participants. Provide leadership, maintain order and safety in teaching area for all participants. Provide feedback to class participants and proper instruction in methods of swimming and safety skills. Complete and distribute progress report cards to all students at the conclusion of each session. Establish and maintain a good public relations image for all aquatic programs and activities. Enforce all pool rules and regulations. Address concerns and emergencies according to policy. Report any problems, concerns, or emergencies that arise during class to authority on duty. Attend staff meetings and in service training as required. Responsible for finding a dependable and appropriate substitute, and provide lesson plans, when it is necessary to miss scheduled classes. Keep all certifications current. Update to new material as necessary. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum 16 years of age. Previous teaching or lesson instruction experience preferred. Knowledgeable of all American Red Cross learn-to-swim levels, basic water safety, and spinal injury management. Ability to interact and instruct diverse populations.
