Cybersecurity/Software Engineer Intern

Key Role:

Work as part of an innovative team working in various aspects of the Cybersecurity field. Learn and practice scripting and programming for various software development tasks to support Cybersecurity goals. Participate in Cybersecurity training courses and research and organize best practices for incident detection and response activities, including audio and video recording of training materials and building lab exercises in a Virtual Machine environment to train specific Cybersecurity tasks. Learn to work with hardware and software for small computing devices, including Raspberry Pi computers and other devices, such as laptop and desktop computers and various aspects of the software development life cycle, interview subject matter experts to gather Cybersecurity best practices, and work on research projects for the Cyber Proving Ground. Prepare and apply Agile project planning and equivalent tasks and training in the Cybersecurity field.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience with scripting and coding, maintaining and hardening critical services, fixing vulnerabilities, and removing malware

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance

  • Pursuing a BA or BS degree

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with computer science or network security coursework

  • Experience with telecommunications coursework

This position provides support to the 47th Cyberspace Test Squadron (CTS) – Located at Joint Base San Antonio, TX. This support includes the following: * Prepare and execute Developmental Test & Evaluation (DT&E) plans and procedures according to established test methodologies. * Perform interoperability and integration testing, as well as functional testing of various systems, tools, and networks. * May participate in all phases of risk management assessment and software/hardware development under the direction of a Senior Test Engineer. * Coordinate with other engineers to ensure the test infrastructure will meet desired test objectives. * Actively participate throughout the acquisition process in order to influence development of a product or capability that is testable. * Provide technical advisory and assistance support to government sponsors. * Compile and analyze test results data to determine conformity of the product or capability to the requirements. * Document change requests/deficiencies of the product or capability as a result of test data analysis. Required Experience Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or a Mathematics-intensive, technical discipline and at minimum of 3 years of technical experience is required. Six years of technical experience may be substituted for a technical BS Degree (Total of 9 years) or four years of applicable technical experience and a technical Associates Degree (Total of 7 Years). * Must possess an active Top Secret/SCI clearance. * Ability to interface with contractors developing the system under test (SUT) regarding test objectives, schedules, budgets, and methods of test. * Must obtain the International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) Certified Tester Foundational Level (CTFL) certification within 6 months of hire. * Must obtain the ISTQB Certified Tester Advanced Level-Test Analyst (CTAL-TA) certification within 2 years of hire. * Must have effective writing/oral presentation skills. * Independent working knowledge of the following: encryption/key management, enterprise network architecture, communication equipment and technologies, routers, mail and web servers, Intrusion Detection & Prevention Systems, firewalls, anti-virus tools, network protocol analyzers, and network traffic generation. * Three years of intensive and progressive experience in a computer-related field. * Minimum of one year software testing for software / hardware applications or systems is required. Preferred Experience: * Test automation. * Five years of intensive and progressive experience in a computer-related field. * Cybersecurity (vulnerability assessments, blue team, red team, etc.). * Understanding of AFIN & DODIN architecture. * Agile development and/or testing.
