JOB TITLE: Cybersecurity Analyst

LOCATION: Southeastern University - Lakeland, FL

TRAVEL: N/A

SCHEDULE: M-F 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Occasional after-hours support may be required, including evenings and weekends.

JOB SUMMARY

This role involves monitoring, detecting, analyzing, and responding to security incidents and threats to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of university systems and data.

The Cybersecurity Analyst will work closely with other IT teams and departments to implement and maintain effective security measures.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Director of Information Technology Infrastructure

Supervisory Responsibility: N/A

Indirect Supervisory Responsibility: N/A

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

May include, but is not limited to the following:

● Monitor and Analyze Security Systems: Continuously monitor network traffic, system

logs, and security alerts to detect and investigate potential security incidents.

● Incident Response: Respond to security breaches and incidents promptly, conducting

thorough investigations and providing detailed reports on findings.

● Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments and vulnerability scans, identifying

and mitigating security risks across the university's IT infrastructure.

● Security Policies and Procedures: Develop, implement, and enforce security policies,

procedures, and best practices in collaboration with the Director of Information

Technology.

● Security Awareness Training: Assist in the development and delivery of cybersecurity

training programs to educate university staff, faculty, and students on security best

practices.

● Compliance: Ensure the university's compliance with relevant regulations, standards,

and policies, such as FERPA, HIPAA, and GDPR.

● Collaboration: Work closely with the IT team and other departments to integrate security

measures into system designs and operational processes.

● Threat Intelligence: Stay up-to-date with the latest cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities,

and technology trends to proactively protect the university's IT environment.

● Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of security incidents, procedures, and

configurations to support continuous improvement and compliance efforts.

ADDITIONAL/NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

● User Support: Provide guidance and support to end-users on security-related issues and

best practices.

● Research and Development: Conduct research on emerging security technologies and

recommend solutions to enhance the university's security posture.

● Cross-Training: Participate in cross-training initiatives to broaden skills and knowledge

within the IT team.

● Backup Support: Provide backup support for other IT functions as needed.

EDUCATION

Required Education:

Associate's in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related

Preferred Education:

Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Professional cybersecurity certifications are a plus.

EXPERIENCE

Required: 2-3 years of experience in information technology roles relevant to the position.

Preferred: 5 years of experience in information technology roles relevant to the position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Required: Analytical and problem-solving skills, strong communication skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Technical skills: IDS/IPS, SIEM, Firewalls, EDR, Operating Systems, Network Protocols, vulnerability scanners.

Preferred: Commitment to continuous learning

Technical skills: Linux

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit or stand at a desk for extended periods of time. Ability to lift and install physical equipment in a data center environment.

TRAINING

All new hires and employees transferring into a new position will have a 90-day probationary period within which to learn the functions of the job and to be evaluated. Following the probationary period, the employee can transition to regular status, have the probationary period extended in order to receive more training, or employment can be terminated. Required compliance training is as follows:

SAFETY

● SEU promotes a safe working environment. Employees are responsible for completing assigned tasks safely and efficiently, and supervisors are responsible for creating and maintaining a safe work environment.

● Employees must report any unsafe work conditions or practices, as well as any near-miss incidents, to their supervisor and Risk Management.

● Work-related injuries must be immediately reported to Security and Human Resources. When life or limb are at risk, please dial 911. Supervisors and employees should ensure that injury/accident reports are submitted to the Office of Human Resources within 24 hours of the incident.

● Emergency Employees report for or must remain at work in emergency situations. Dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to this position, unless instructed otherwise by your direct supervisor or a member of the Leadership Team.

SCREENING

All full-time positions at SEU are deemed security-sensitive and require background checks.

Employees required to drive their own personal vehicle, a rental car or an SEU vehicle in performance of their duties must pass an MVR records check and meet the requirements of the University's insurance carrier in order to meet the requirements of the position.
