Essential Responsibilities

The successful candidate for this position will work to design, build, and deploy cyber security solutions. The candidate will take a hands on approach to developing the software, tools, and procedures. Key responsibilities include:

  • Engineer, develop and maintain home-grown security solutions

  • Collaborate with other cyber security engineers and architects on major initiatives

  • Publish and maintain technical documentation

  • Be a strong team contributor who provides ideas and improvements to service offerings

  • Be able to utilize common developer support tools such as source code management, build servers, code review/scans and DevOps

Education and Experience Required:

Undergraduate degree in computer science, engineering or related field.

Advanced degree preferred; i.e. MBA or MS

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Strong understanding of security fundamentals and technologies

  • Strong DevOps experience on Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure platforms

  • Programming or software development experience

  • In-depth knowledge of Cryptographic concepts, including PKI, hashing and digital signatures would be a plus

  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Uncompromising personal and professional integrity and ethics.

  • Strong organization, prioritization, and rationalization skills.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Security professional certifications preferred (such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, CEH, SANS/GIAC, CERT)

  • Technology industry experience.

  • First-hand experience being employed as a security practitioner.

VIEW JOBS 11/30/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-28T00:00 Job Description In this role, the candidate will be responsible for cyber security hardening of radiotherapy products. More specifically: * Leading cybersecurity risk assessment (including threat modeling exercises) with development team * Provide input for system hardening and applying security standards during product development phase * Support the scoping of comprehensive security assessments executed by 3rd parties (e.g. Product Penetration Testing), analyze and report results, and support the design of remediations * Perform continuous monitoring for new high-risk vulnerabilities of released products, triggering proactive actions when needed (security patching) * Support the coordinated tuning of rule sets in security tools (e.g. static code analysis tool, vulnerability management tool) to meet product-specific goals * Collaborate with and provide feedback to Product Security Office to ensure the relevancy and the value of the central governance mechanisms, tool sets, reference architecture, and other repositories * Perform planned and ad-hoc Risk Assessment (e.g. Threat and Risk Analysis) of Varian products to design, prioritize, and drive implementation of risk-mitigations; document risk mitigations as a basis for customer-facing communications and materials * Directly govern the setup and update of the repository of 3rd party components used in Varian product(s); import/integrate the repository to supporting security technology platforms for subsequent vulnerability and risk analysis * Prepare Cybersecurity Summary Report per regulatory (e.g. submission package) or other customer requirements * Provide hands-on technical support expertise in general SW development, system engineering, IT and networking as necessary * Continuously participate in and contribute to the Product Security Satellite Group (PSSG) to design, implement, improve, and monitor security practices within Varian * Implement solutions on the delivery systems platforms. * Provide hands-on technical support for network firewall policies and troubleshooting network connectivity issues Job Requirements * Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field * Minimum of Bachelor's + 4 years' experience or Master's + 2 years' experience * Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive * Ability to lead and coordinate teams towards common objectives * Excellent written and oral communication skills; sharp analytical abilities * Experience with and knowledge about network security * Experience in secure coding and SDLC * Experience or understanding of one or more of the following: multi-vendor application firewalls, IDS/IPS, wireless, SSL & IPSEC VPN, SSO, Multi-factor authentication, cryptography, database technologies, encryption technologies, endpoint and cloud security * Experience with complex multidisciplinary systems preferred * SW troubleshooting experience is strongly preferred Experience with medical device or large capital equipment development is preferred Varian Medical Systems, Inc.
