Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Cutter Grind Machinist. The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
This is a 2nd Shift position.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
Set up and operate all departmental grinding equipment, to recondition standard tooling and/or make/modify special tools
Set up and operate grinding machines to grind standard and special carbide tools
Inspect and measure work pieces to ensure that surfaces and dimensions meet specifications
Perform basic maintenance, such as cleaning and lubricating machine parts
Dress grinding wheels, according to specifications
Monitor machine operations to determine whether adjustments are necessary; stop machines when problems occur
Program CNC grinders
Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors, problems or defects
Verifies, by initials, conformance of finished work piece to specifications
Draws sketches of tooling for part to be fabricated
Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining problems
Maintains traceability of material by keeping lot items together or serialized
Maintains equipment and immediate work area in a clean and orderly condition
Works under limited supervision
No instructions needed on routine work and general instruction given on new lines of work or special assignments
