EWEB is seeking a Customer Solutions Specialist (CSS) I, II, or III to join our high-performing Customer Solutions team. The CSS position may include work across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.

Assigned work will depend on the applicant's proficiency, knowledge, expertise, and business needs. This position focuses helping our customers with energy efficiency improvements by performing energy assessments on selected sites, identifying needs, recommending efficiency improvements and solutions, processing project incentives, providing support during projects, and consistently delivering outstanding customer service. We're looking for someone who can identify project opportunities and assist customers, with strong skills in the following areas: HVAC, building controls, lighting, building envelope, solar, home weatherization, and other energy efficiency and conservation best practices.

The Customer Solutions team assists EWEB's customers with energy and water conservation, retail programs, loans, rebates, bill assistance, and related customer service. We work independently and collaboratively on a wide variety of public-facing programs, and we are passionate about energy, water, and public service.

Examples of key job duties for each CSS position level are listed below. All CSS positions are responsible for managing energy efficiency projects from start to finish.

Customer Solutions Specialist I:

  • Performs basic technical analysis for building systems.

  • Performs on-site energy audits of buildings to compile building characteristics data including building structure, HVAC systems, lighting systems, equipment, appliances, and viability of renewable technologies.

  • Responds to a wide varied of customer inquiries; investigates and resolves billing questions and complaints.

Customer Solutions Specialist II:

  • Conducts and oversees completion of technical analyses on customer facilities and equipment; identifies solutions and recommends improvements.

  • Provides technical assistance and information to customers and the general public regarding practical application of a variety of energy technologies and utility services.

  • Prepares moderately complex reports regarding energy audits and analysis.

Customer Solutions Specialist III:

  • Prepares complex reports regarding energy analysis. Prepares grants.

    Performs energy assessments to include simple pay back, life cycle cost analysis, and simple savings/return on investments ratios. Delivers presentations and replies to questions from developers, consultants, contractors, and owners.

  • Performs technical energy analyses of complex residential, commercial, and/or industrial facilities, systems, processes, and equipment. Partners with engineers to apply a variety of analysis and computer modeling methods and to develop monitoring and testing plans. Analyzes data, independently problem solve solutions, and prepare reports and contracts.

  • Performs technical review of energy proposals from contractors, developers, and consultants.

The CSS position calls for a strong attention to detail, organizational skills, the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities, and a commitment to being a flexible and supportive team player. The successful candidate will also have experience or knowledge in some or all of the following areas:

  • Technologies used in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and demand response programs.

  • Terminology, components, materials, techniques, and procedures specific to the utility industry, the construction industry, and building science development.

  • Federal, state, regional, and utility energy management programs.

  • Heat transfer, lighting technology, appliances and electrical equipment, HVAC system types, building controls, building envelope, domestic hot water systems, and operating efficiencies.

Starting Salary

The starting level and annual salary for this position is commensurate with the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, education, and experience as relates to the position.

CSS I: $66,388.62 - $79,986.29

CSS II: $73,193.45 - $88,184.88

CSS III: $79,362.95 - $99,203.69

Experience and Education Requirements

Equivalency: Candidates who do not meet all of the minimum qualifications but whose application materials demonstrate equivalent relevant experience, skills, and ability to excel in similar roles are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Experience:

CSS I: No prior work experience required.

CSS II: Two years of directly related experience in energy management, energy analysis, or building systems design.

CSS III: Four years of directly related experience in energy management, energy analysis or building systems design.

Minimum Education:

CSS I & II: Associate's degree in Energy Management, Engineering, or a related technical field.

CSS III: Associate's degree in Energy Management, Engineering, or a related technical field. Training in building mechanical or electrical systems and equipment, residential, commercial/industrial process energy use, and energy analysis methods.

Desirable education, experience, training, and certifications:

Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Leadership for Energy Efficient Design (LEED), or other relevant certifications.

Work Location/Telecommuting

This position is based in Eugene, Oregon and has been approved for a remote/telecommuting work arrangement with occasional onsite meetings at our operations center. This position requires site visits to customers within EWEB's service area. The selected candidate must reside in the state of Oregon.
