Summary

Ensures that customers receive the best service possible at any of the FRIENDS Gift Shops through processing orders, preparing general correspondence, and coordinating with other functions as required. Acts as customer contact regarding pricing, scheduling, and shipping. Two years of experience in position. Applies basic skills and procedures appropriate for the position within assigned functional area. Duties and tasks are standardized. Resolves routine questions and problems and refers more complex issues to higher levels. Works under direct supervision and follows standard procedures to accomplish assigned tasks. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position are nonexempt.

Responsibilities*

  • Assists customers with inquiries, purchases, or other customer facing information

  • Assists individuals in the accurate application of their transactions, and when necessary, researches records on electronic and other available files to provide information regarding

  • Provides inventory management skillset to include presentation, monitoring and ordering of

  • Maintains electronic files necessary to generate daily reports.

  • Provides information to patrons regarding pertinent rules, policies, and procedures related to

  • Maintains confidentiality of university and student records.

  • Leads and guides the work of temporary staff and volunteers where necessary.

  • Answers questions and resolves problems of patrons or staff with a high degree of urgency.

  • Answer telephones, processes telephone orders, posts invoices, and prepare and file

  • Makes deliveries of merchandise to hospital rooms as required.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Work is normally performed in a typical small scale retail setting

Required Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience that is directly related retail cashiering and inventory management principles.

  • Ability to calculate numbers, correct entries, and post to records.

  • Knowledge of cash management principles and/or procedures.

  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.

  • Ability to lead and train staff and/or students.

  • Ability to effectively communicate accounting information, policies, and/or procedures in a manner easily understood by the customer.

  • Account balancing skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.

  • Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial and/or accounting applications.

  • Must have excellent verbal and written skills.

  • Demonstrates a record of excellent attendance.

  • Must be able to lift or move 35 lbs.

  • Must be able to work in any of the Friends Gift Shops locations during any shift the shop is open. This must include evenings and weekends as assigned.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, accounting or related field
  • 4 year's retail experience

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
