We are a full-service city comprised of nine departments, that include our own city staffed Fire and Police departments.   Additionally, the city oversees a general aviation airport, a library, and a variety of recreational buildings, facilities, and activities.  As a mid-sized organization providing a variety of services to both internal and external customers, employees are afforded the opportunity to perform varied work within their job classifications.

POSITION

Under varying levels of supervision, performs a wide variety of responsible clerical, account related and public contact work involved with the billing and maintenance of City accounts, the issuance of business permits and the processing of payments for City services; and performs related work as required.

Class Titles

Customer Service Representative - $3,469 - $4,428/Monthly

The Customer Service Representative is the entry level in series.  An incumbent at this level has sufficient ability and knowledge to perform substantially all the duties and responsibilities of the position and, over time, is expected to gain the additional work experience and skills needed to progress to the Senior level.

Senior Customer Service Representative - $3,644 - $4,651/Monthly

Senior Customer Service Representative is the journey level in the series.  A Senior Customer Service Representative is distinguished from Customer Service Representative by the performance of more complex and difficult duties involving the exercise of a greater degree of responsibility, independent judgment and initiative including supporting and training Customer Service Representative.

The city currently has vacancies in the Parks & Recreation and Administrative Services Department.

Education/Training/Experience

Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in the position may be considered as qualifying. A typical combination includes:

  • Graduation from high school and two years of general clerical experience involving public contact work to include some money handling experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Class C California Driver's License and acceptable driving record at time of appointment and throughout employment in this position.

  • Type at a speed required for successful job performance.

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs.

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE

Applicants must be specific and complete in describing qualifications for the position.

BASED UPON THE INFORMATION PRESENTED ON THE APPLICATION MATERIALS, Applicants possessing the most suitable qualifications will be invited to a written examination, performance examination, oral interview and/or other assessment instrument.

NOTE:

Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for Customer Service Representative or Senior Customer Service Representative will be placed on an eligible list for the respective classification, which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list.

Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.

All employment offers, including appointment offers to City of Fullerton employees, are conditional based upon the successful completion of a background check and medical examination performed by the City's designated physician, at City expense. Medical exams are administered to assess an individual's ability to perform the physical requirements of this position. In addition, City of Fullerton employees appointed to safety sensitive classifications and all new hires will undergo a drug screen.

All new hires will be fingerprinted. Fingerprints are verified with the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Employees in this classification will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles Government Pull Notice Program.

All new hires, including non-regular City of Fullerton employees appointed to this position will serve a one-year probationary period. Regular City of Fullerton employees promoted to this position will serve a six-month probationary period.

California Government Code §3100 - 3109 requires that all public employees are to be declared disaster service workers and shall take and subscribe to the related oath or affirmation as required.

The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires that you must be a U.S citizen or alien lawfully authorized to work in the United States to be eligible for hire. All new hires will be required to provide documentation to verify their status.
