SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for providing our passengers with superior customer service from behind the ticket counter or on the station floor or platform. The ability to maintain a positive, good natured attitude is essential. The incumbent will be responsible for greeting, servicing and general comfort of each passenger. Representative must be comfortable with interacting with customers, speaking on a public address system and using Amtrak computer systems. Will be assigned to cover vacancies at Florence, SC and Columbia, SC and be on-call to perform such assignments. Ability to work any day of the week or shift.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform janitorial duties as required and necessary.

  • Ensure safety and security of station, platform and surrounding areas for passengers, employees, vendors etc.

  • Must be skilled in the processing of all types of Amtrak tickets and must have a thorough understanding of tariffs to properly price tickets.

  • Make ticket reports promptly, properly safeguard company funds and prepare reports related to ticketing activity, baggage handling and other station and train operations.

  • Must be qualified with the operation of Arrow, Railres/Stars and Quik-Trak.

  • Agent will be governed by all Corporate and station policies.

  • Must be able to qualify on forklift operation.

  • Provide up to date train status to passengers.

  • Responsible for the proper care and preventative maintenance of the ticket printers, Quik-Trak machines, wheelchair lifts, electric carts and other station related equipment.

  • Keep all information racks filled as needed.

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs

  • Provide assistance to passengers while boarding and detraining including required ADA assistance.

  • Provide and arrange alternate transportation and/or lodging options in the event of service disruptions and/or misconnections.

  • Perform miscellaneous clerical duties related to the ticket office and/or station.

  • Responsible for the dissemination of both verbal and printed information to passengers including schedules, fares, routing, city highlights, baggage, boarding information, tours and other intermodal transportation.

  • Prepare and properly price baggage and baggage express shipments.

  • Work with other station employees to ensure all passenger train boarding(s) are timely.

  • Will verify passengers are properly ticketed or have the proper travel documents, and ensure compliance with baggage requirements prior to admission to station platforms.

  • Representative must comply with the company's uniform and grooming policy to present a positive image on behalf of Amtrak through manners, actions and personal style.

  • Must attend annual Customer Service, Policies and Safety related training.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be able to work under pressure; learn policy and procedures quickly; be able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Cash handling experience.

  • Ability to learn computer based skills.

  • Must have valid driver's license.

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
