The Richland Center Shopping News is looking for a flexible full-time (38 hours/week) Customer Service & Print Design Assistant. This position will assist the front office by assisting customers over the phone and in-person and acting as a contact person between sales, production and the customer. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) is helpful.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Work efficiently and effectively with other employee owners to provide exceptional customer service to both our internal and external customers.

  • Work in a team environment with internal and external members to accomplish deadline standards, quality control and a cohesive and efficient department.

  • Function as a support person for the Richland Center Advertising Sales Staff by acting as a contact person between Sales and the Client, Sales and Production, and the Client and Production.

  • Effectively and accurately place advertisements for our customers.

  • Assist walk-in customers with their job-printing needs including quoting, setup, design, reproduction, scheduling.

  • Communicate regularly with the Production Manager, to coordinate workflow, streamline efficiency, flag potential problems and otherwise assist in meeting client needs.

  • Provide customer service to internal and external customers.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Prepare work tickets, advertising copy and suggest basic designs to clients and advertising sales staff.

  • Correctly enter ads into the Advertising system.

  • Scan artwork and halftones using Photoshop.

  • Compose commercial printing as needed using InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator

  • Pre-proof and edit display ads for accuracy in size, punctuation, content layout and instructions.

  • Proofread Commercial job work and edit copy as requested.

  • Prioritize work according to deadlines.

  • Perform miscellaneous jobs as assigned by supervisor

  • Coordinate the flow of ads and advertising artwork to the creative department.

  • Assist in cross training to maintain a team environment.

  • Monitor workflow to assure that daily deadlines are being met.

  • Write copy when requested.

  • Process final proofs through to production.

  • Maintain current and complete electronic archival artwork files and purge files when appropriate.

  • Ensure all projects are completed within assigned deadlines.

  • Coordinate ad flow of special projects as they become relevant.

  • Suggest and initiate, as appropriate, new methods and procedures to enhance efficient operation of the department.

  • Maintain a "customer comes first" environment with pro-active commitment to internal and external customer service.

  • Meet with clients when necessary.

  • Assist sales staff by handling phone contact to accounts on an incoming and outgoing basis.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Actively participates in the Great Game of Business.

Qualifications

Behavior: Creative. Capable of self direction, self-motivation and resourcefulness. Commitment to quality customer service on the phone and in person. Appropriate dress.

Skills:
Good communicator both written and spoken, keyboarding skills, ability to create an ad from concept through final output. Ability and desire to work in a team environment to achieve group goals. Capable of self-direction,

works well with others, tactful, ethical. Presents a positive representation of the newspaper and the organization in both actions and words. Adaptable to change.

Knowledge:
High school education or technical school plus six months or more equivalent experience. Knowledge of good design techniques and experience with InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop preferred.
