DESCRIPTION

Answers questions and establishes utility service for customers within the guidelines of Augusta-Richmond County ordinances and department policies and procedures. Reports to the Customer Service Supervisor or other designated person. Works with co-workers, the public, and employees to provide operational support. Performs all other duties as assigned.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Answers telephone calls, accepts complaints, provides information, resolves problems, and opens and sorts mail.

  • Makes arrangements for partial payment of customer accounts and adjusts customer bills.

  • Accepts and reviews new utility contracts, inputs into the computer, and maintains contract and reconnection files.

  • Processes reconnections, disconnections, service transfers and generates duplicate bills.

  • Answers customer calls and walk-in requests for service.

  • Uses CIS billing software to research customer complaints.

  • Sets up new customers in CIS system.

  • Researches inconsistencies in readings and billings.

  • Creates work orders for partial payments and customer adjustments as authorized by supervisor.

  • Corrects address changes on returned mail and re-mails to new address.

  • Scans account documents.

  • Assists cashiers with incoming mail.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School diploma or GED

Experience: One (1) year of experience providing customer service to the public in person and by telephone.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of proper office and clerical procedures.

  • Familiarity with Augusta-Richmond County ordinances and department policies and procedures.

  • Proficiency in interpersonal relations and mathematics.

  • Mastery of operating standard office equipment, computer, and a two-way radio.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Physical Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Work is performed in an office setting.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
