Job Overview:

This position coordinates and plays a lead role for the engineering activities associated with customer supply systems. Customer supply systems generally consist of cryogenic storage tanks, vaporizers, pumps, high pressure receivers, controls and instrumentation at customer locations delivering atmospheric gases, hydrogen or CO2.

This position performs project engineering work from proposal to implementation as well as provides operations support as a technical expert within the organization. This position works effectively across the organization to provide supply system solutions to customers.

This position reports to an Engineering Manager; position may or may not have direct reports depending on level and capability, but may supervise the work of other engineers and technicians. Open to Tonawanda NY or Burr Ridge IL as the primary work location.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and size basic to complicated customer liquid and gas supply systems for atmospheric gases, hydrogen or CO2.

  • Performs and/or approves detailed design calculation such as storage tank sizing, process line sizing, piping and manual valve specification, safety relief valve sizing, liquid pump sizing, pressure drop calculations and pipe stress analysis.

  • Works with internal and external resources to approve fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to specifications and makes design recommendations.

  • Serves as a consultant to others, providing technical information and engineering recommendations that assist with various projects and training purposes.

  • Support for operations: Makes timely technical decisions based on awareness of viability, cost and other benefits; sometimes with limited information and under tight deadlines and pressure.

  • Provide technical expertise in troubleshooting, Root Cause Analysis, and developing standards.

  • Is innovative in developing, selecting and implementing engineering techniques and solutions to drive safety, reliability and productivity of supply systems.

  • Makes effective presentations to internal and external customers.

  • Approves standards and guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or commensurate experience.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical engineering and design

  • Expertise with industrial gas supply systems preferred.

  • Demonstrated track record of successfully managing complex projects and collaborating with external partners including customers and suppliers

  • Has extensive breadth and depth of knowledge in the field of mechanical engineering and working knowledge of other engineering disciplines - civil, electrical and controls

  • Knowledge of design Codes and Standards, including ASME, NFPA, and CGA

  • Knowledge, application and specification of piping materials

  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis, Process Hazard Analysis/HAZOP methodologies preferred

  • Excellent communication skills, writing skills and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to meet schedule deadlines and budgets

  • Willingness to travel to support projects and field operations: 10-15% expected.

Pay Range: 80,000 - 120,000
