Class Concept
Advanced level of fabrication knowledge and experience. Must be able to understand the needs of the customer, the structural, mechanical, and general physical use & restrictions of applying customer's needs to equipment.
Must have extensive knowledge of welding (ARC, MIG, & TIG) along with use of proper materials for fabrication. Must be able to design usable end products to fulfill customer's needs.
Job Duties
Designs, schedules, and fabricates specific items in support of customer operations by welding, cutting, and building items after consultations with customers to meet their needs.
Inspects and services a full range of basic systems, sub-systems, or components on light and medium duty vehicles or equipment such as gasoline or diesel engines and their basic systems.
Diagnoses problems and makes repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, adjusting or cleaning defective parts or components. Replaces or repairs components such as spark plugs, brake shoes, mufflers, radiator caps, condensers, belts and hoses.
Flushes radiators replace antifreeze solutions. Adjusts brakes, engine idle, voltage and control valves, clean or replace filters, screens, batteries, cables and clamps, services gasoline and diesel engines and their related components including heating and cooling devices.
Records parts used, repairs and maintenance work done for each vehicle or piece of equipment. Identify and Obtain parts and materials using Fleet Services protocols.
Assists in maintaining an orderly, safe, and clean work area.
Performs Other Related Duties as Required.
Minimum Class Requirements
Valid driver 's license with an acceptable driving record. Equivalent to high school diploma.
Five (5) years within the last six (6) years recent on-the-job experience and training that demonstrates advanced knowledge, skills and abilities in the use of materials, design, and fabrications of automotive products.
Must have the ability to weld, measure, and cut metal materials used in fabrication.
Must have basic ability to repair & maintain of a variety of vehicles (light, medium & heavy duty)
OR alternative, equivalent evidence of the Minimum Class Requirements.

Training & Development
Must obtain /retain ASE certification or successfully complete 16 hours of approved job-related technical training annually.
Must obtain /retain Welding certification or successfully complete 16 hours of approved job-related technical training annually.
Required to provide own hand tools.
