DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: School Administrator, Director of Maintenance/Operations, or designee.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
At a High School facility, will patrol the buildings, parking areas, grounds, and other areas to prevent illegal acts in order to maintain order and a safe working environment. In addition, the Custodian/Security III will perform facility set-ups, maintenance and custodial work in the cleaning and maintenance of assigned buildings, equipment, facilities, and grounds.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs custodial work, light maintenance, and grounds work and facility set-ups
Removes graffiti from various surfaces such as wood, glass, plaster, stucco, wallboard, brick, and cement
Pick up litter from buildings and surrounding grounds and parking lots
Lift and store supplies
Report safety, sanitation, and fire hazards and removes object hazardous to persons and property
Checks, monitors, and questions students or visitors who appear to be loitering or parking inappropriately
Observes and reports to law enforcement agencies any acts by persons which contribute to injury to students or staff
Develops and maintains friendly and cordial relations with students, staff and District officials
Observes and reports hazards or activities which may affect district safety
Checks, opens and locks doors, windows and gates as needed
Assists with substitute custodian monitoring and scheduling
Monitor traffic flow (visitors/students) on campus throughout the day
Assist with security issues
Assist with student events
Maintains regular and prompt attendance in the workplace
Performs other related duties as assigned

Operation, methods and practices followed in the use of maintenance and repair of tools, machinery and equipment
Plumbing and hardware techniques
District Education Center rules and regulations
Safe work practices
ABILITY TO:
Estimate the scope of each work assignment and secure the necessary tools and materials to complete the assignments
Use precision measuring equipment
Keep accurate records of work performed
Deal tactfully and effectively with people of varying ages and faculty
Physically cover the areas of responsibility under the varying weather conditions
Understand, communicate, and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work both orally and in writing
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduate from high school and minimum of one year experience in a custodial or maintenance field.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS, ADA REQUIREMENTS, ENVIRONMENT:
Employees in this position must be able to:
Stand and/or walk on hard and/or uneven surfaces for extended periods of time
Bend, squat, stoop and/or climb for brief periods of time
Reach above shoulder level for brief periods of time
Push/pull up to 50 lbs for a short distance
Lift and carry up to 50 lbs at waist height for short distances
Exercise, during the performance of his/her duties, the amount of physical control reasonably necessary to maintain order, protect property or protect the health and safety of students, staff and community members
Run short distances
Enter data into a computer for short periods of time
See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids
Work indoors and outdoors in various conditions during the course of the required schedule
Exposure to noise, dust and fume levels will vary according to equipment and projects
Must wear closed toe shoes and meet uniform requirements
As required, must wear protective devices such as earplugs, dust mask, coveralls, gloves, safety boots and safety glasses
