University Housing Facilities is looking for Custodians to join our 1st and 2nd Shift Teams!

Custodians at University Housing work together in teams to help keep spaces welcoming, safe and clean for residents, staff, and guests.

Responsibilities:

Cleans facilities, removes waste and recycling, and monitors building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours. Ensures cleanliness, orderliness, and safety in assigned areas.

  • 60% Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
  • 5% Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
  • 5% Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed
  • 5% Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs
  • 10% Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
  • 10% Prepares, services, and/or maintains residence hall and dining facilities for residents and guests
  • 5% Assists residents and guests with event setup and take down

Tasks:

  • Provides support and assists as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency

  • Communicates with residents and guests to address needs and service requests

  • Completes work in occupied or vacant residence hall and dining spaces

  • Demonstrates and role models exceptional customer service

  • Promotes and participates in a collaborative team environment

  • Maintains and implements prescribed cleaning standards

  • 3 months of previous cleaning, custodial, hospitality, or related experience
  • 6 months of previous continuous employment

Work Schedule:

Multiple vacancies may be available.

1st shift position(s): Typical schedule is 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts, for total of 40 hours per week. Some positions include scheduled shifts every other weekend. Some flexibility may be possible for scheduled days, work hours, and shift lengths.

2nd shift position(s): Typical schedule is 3:00pm-1:30am, 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts, for a total of 40 hours per week, including rotating holidays and shifts every other weekend. Some flexibility may be possible for scheduled days and work hours.

Work schedule will be set with selected finalist(s) at time of offer. Schedule alterations as operations and position expectations demand.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

University Housing is also offering a $1,000 to $2,000 hiring bonus for this position!

Hourly wage is $17.00 per hour with a competitive retirement and benefits package, including insurance, vacation, holidays, and paid time off. This is a full-time appointment.

University Housing staff also earn additional money when working at night (6:00pm to 6:00am) and on weekends (Saturday and Sunday).

Additional $2.50 per hour for nighttime work on weekdays, up to $2.50 per hour for daytime weekend work, and up to $3.30 per hour for nighttime weekend work.

Current UW-Madison employees may be eligible to be hired up to their current rate of compensation, based on qualifications.

Professional development opportunities (i.e., Workplace English classes) are available after passing probation.

Some University Housing Custodian positions may have additional requirements including:

  • English proficiency with the ability to speak, read, write, and understand verbal instructions
  • A valid driver's license, or a valid driver's license which meets UW Risk Management standards
