The Department of Housing & Food Services employs approximately 1,500 full-time, part-time and student staff who work in Residential Life, UW Dining, Student and Financial Services, Communications and Marketing, Human Resources, Facilities Services and Information Technology

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise Custodian Supervisor 1, Custodian Lead and Custodians. Directs Night Team Custodial Program, focusing on Dining Location and Childcare Center cleaning, while dispatching custodial teams as needed within HFS Facilities.

Description of Duties

  • Perform the duties of the Custodian Supervisor I.

  • Determine staffing needs for buildings in consideration of the building occupancy. Establish appropriate staffing to prepare the residence halls and food service areas for the customer; oversee activities in assigned area of responsibility.

  • Prepare detailed cleaning programs for HFS dining facilities and UW childcare facility.

  • Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies and machinery.

  • Participate in budgeting and planning for staffing, supplies and equipment.

  • Inspect assigned areas and take action to correct areas that are not in compliance.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of departmental training for employees.

  • Monitor labor and materials expenditures, recommending corrective action as indicated.

  • Coordinate provision of custodial services with other departments.

  • Prepare a variety of reports such as analyses of custodial workloads, service requirements, and employee job performance.

  • Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Three years of experience in custodial or general maintenance work, including two years of experience as a Custodian Supervisor 1.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may substitute for required qualifications.

Conditions of Employment:

  • A satisfactory outcome from the employment verification and reference check processes.

  • Possession of a valid State of Washington Driver's License is required.

  • Infrequent attendance at meetings and trainings during the day shift required.

  • Must be able to work beyond the standard work week occasionally to meet operational needs.

This position will work a Monday Friday, 9:30 p.m. - 6:00 a.m. schedule.

The salary range is $3437-4610/month + benefits.

Reporting to the Resident Hall Custodial Manager, this position leads 9 -10 custodians working in our on campus residence halls. Position Description: * Provide general custodial duties for our residence halls. Duties include vacuuming, dusting, washing walls, mirrors, and windows. Collect and dispose of garbage. * Maintain high standards of cleanliness and service by inspecting work to ensure standards. * Train new employees on duties and operation of equipment. * Report all necessary building or equipment repair requirements for assigned facilities to and input into work order system. * Ensure that all custodial equipment is in good repair. * Manage schedules for assigned personnel and inspect work to ensure conformance with established standards. * Perform work routines and assist other custodians with janitorial and other work. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level. * Report all accidents or other incidents to Public Safety and custodial supervisor. * Insure security for keys. * Manage temporary staff during clean out periods. * Perform other duties of a similar nature or level. * Plan and organize assigned work to fulfill task standards, meet schedule requirements, and maintain workload balance. * Properly and safely, use appropriate tools used in performing required tasks. Account for and maintain university-owned tools and equipment; repair and maintain tools as needed. Maintain a safe and clean shop space. * Follow and promote established safety rules and regulations; attend safety trainings as required. * Work in a safe, clean and respectful manner while performing work on campus. Work in occupied spaces with minimal disruption of campus activities. * Communicate effectively with Resident Life, Resident Hall Directors and Conferences (building users) filling needs of students and conference guests. * Provide timely and ongoing notification to all parties affected by work. * Coordinate with Facilities managers on project request recommendations, estimates, and work management reports as required. Qualifications As a Shop Lead - know the skills of the trade * Perform the functions of a journey level residence hall custodian to the point of being competent to teach necessary skill sets to junior trades people. * Maintain current knowledge of all pertinent codes, laws, etc. * Ability to work the stated hours/days. * Ability to understand instructions given in the English language. * Ability to lift or otherwise move up to 50 pounds. * An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job will also be considered. * Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a diverse, multi-cultural student population * Good communication and customer service skills; a team-player * Commitment to the college mission and philosophy of education * Computer skills essential to performing certain aspects of the job Seattle University, founded in 1891, is a Jesuit Catholic university located on 50 acres in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood.
