Job Description and Duties

The Custodian Supervisor I will be directed by the Custodian Supervisor II in General Services at the Department of State Hospitals- Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

• Willingness to develop a team atmosphere, work overtime as required.
• Proven ability to work independently.
• Maintain effective relationships with the public, other departments, contractors and suppliers.
• Supervise custodian staff responsible for disinfecting, sanitizing and cleaning according to Title 22.
• Safely lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Provide instruction and training.
• Responsible for inspecting custodial equipment.
• Ensure proper storage techniques when receiving and storing chemicals, equipment, paper goods and other items requiring storage.
• Inventory of supplies ensuring adequate supplies are available.
• Receive and resolve complaints.
• Keep records and prepare reports.
• Corrects Health and Safety concerns that are identified through area specific committee and Executive Director's Inspection Team (E.D.I.T).

1. BE LIST ELIGIBLE: Successfully complete the competitive State civil service exam pertaining to this classification at Custodian Suprevisor I, OR

2. BE TRANSFER ELIGIBLE: Have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable (employees who wish to be considered based on transfer eligibility must meet the minimum qualifications of the classification per DPA Rule 250), OR

3. BE REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBLE: Have obtained previous permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable.

• Minimum qualifications will be verified prior to being scheduled for an interview. Please provide proof of minimum qualifications with your application submission, which may include a copy of your unofficial college transcripts and/or out of class paperwork.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either I: One year in California state service performing duties of a class with a level of responsibility equivalent to a Custodian II; OR II: 18 months in California state service performing duties of a class with a level of responsibility equivalent to a Custodian I; OR III: Two years of professional cleaning experience, with at least one year leading, directing, and giving instruction and training to custodians, inmates, youth offenders, or institutional residents engaged in cleaning services. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent can be substituted for six months of the required non-lead experience.

• If it is determined that an applicant does not meet the minimum qualifications, the applicant's name may be removed from the eligibility list.
