POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Position: Substitute Custodian

  • District Assigned to Pryor Campus

Non-Exempt Support, Substitute 12-month Staff

Starting Date: As soon as possible

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

Schedule: General work schedule of 2:30 to 11:00 Monday

  • Friday, unless the assignment requires additional time for completion.

Wage: $16.00 per hour

Primary

Function: In order to promote quality career and technology training by providing students with a safe, attractive, clean, and comfortable place to learn, responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to cleaning assigned educational buildings and grounds, general maintenance, repairs, remodeling, assistance with general remodel and construction including painting, changing light bulbs, etc.; and set up and tear down for special classes and events. Also provide a safe and secure facility by making sure doors and gates are locked, and lights and alarms are working as assigned. Responsibilities also include any other duties assigned by the maintenance supervisor, director of facilities, and/or campus director.

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Experience: Experience and competency in the following areas are needed: Experience in custodial and/or maintenance work, operating equipment and tools in performing minor repairs. Must have good communication skills, basic computer skills are preferred. Must have the physical ability to accomplish thorough cleaning of buildings, have understanding and experience in light repairs and remodeling of buildings.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Non-Exempt, Support, Substitute, 12-month Staff

TITLE: SUBSTITUTE CUSTODIAN

Hours:

Work days are typically Monday

  • Friday, work hours are set by each individual campus, and include a 30-minute meal break. The supervisor retains the right to adjust the work schedule and job description/duties based on the needs of the district.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Comply with all state, and federal laws and policies, and procedures of the school district.

  • Attend professional development training as required.

  • Assist in conducting an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair of the facilities.

  • Keep buildings and premises neat, clean, and in good repair at all times.

  • Properly clean and disinfect bathrooms daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.

  • Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.

  • Report any damage to school property to Maintenance Supervisor or Campus Director.

  • Move furniture and equipment as required for meetings or classes scheduled at the facility.

  • Ensure that all exit doors are open when necessary, and the building is secure by making sure doors and gates are locked, and lights and alarms are working at the appropriate times designated by the Maintenance Supervisor or Campus Director.

  • Shovel, plow, and sand walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps for snow and ice removal as appropriate.

  • Assist in the performance of all yard-keeping chores such as grass cutting and caring for plants and vegetation, tree trimming, etc. as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.

  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment, and informs the Maintenance Supervisor of needed replacements far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in sufficient time so as to not hinder the performance of duties.

  • Remove trash from the facility on a daily basis or more often, if necessary.

  • Must be present at the facility during designated school breaks when requested by Maintenance Supervisor or Campus Director.

  • Regular attendance following a designated work schedule. Must be able to work scheduled and extended hours and additional days/evenings as required by position responsibilities.

  • Any other responsibilities or duties assigned by the Supervisor or Superintendent.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or GED.

  • Knowledge of a variety of cleaning agents and their applications. Must be able to follow simple oral and written instructions in order to properly apply cleaning agents.

  • Must be able to work unsupervised and accomplish all assigned duties and tasks.

  • Skilled in operating equipment and tools in performing minor repairs.

  • Skilled in performing routine maintenance and have the physical ability to accomplish thorough cleaning and repair/upkeep of buildings.

  • Must have good communication skills, basic computer skills are preferred.

  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

  • Cannot be related to currently seated district school board members within the second degree of affinity or consanguinity.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

  • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously with associated deadlines.

  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

  • Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities.

  • Must be capable of being calm and professional with numerous different personalities at various levels.

Training and Meeting Requirements:

  • View or attend required Safety Training either by video or in person on a quarterly basis.

  • Attends professional development training opportunities as required by district policy.

  • Attends meetings and provides information to the Administration of the Board of Education as requested.

Work Environment:

  • This job operates in a public school This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

  • This role also routinely uses equipment outside and hand and power tools while performing maintenance on buildings and equipment.

Physical, Mental Demands, and Dependability:

  • Medium to heavy physical effort required for example loading and unloading a truck with or without a forklift, conducting maintenance on various equipment in a climate-controlled building and/or outside, must be able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to: care for oneself, see, hear, walk, stand, lift, bend, reach, climb, stoop, squat, speak, breathe, learn, read, concentrate, think, and perform work by doing manual tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

Terms of Employment:

At-will for the first year of employment. After the first year, employment is considered annually in accordance with Oklahoma law.

Annual Evaluation:

The performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with Oklahoma law and the provisions of the board's policy on evaluations.
