Overview and Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY
The Custodian is responsible for general housekeeping and maintenance on the Twin Cities campus including, but not limited to classrooms, offices, hallways, stairwells, common areas and outside grounds.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs daily cleaning and trash removal for classrooms, office spaces, restrooms, kitchens, and common areas to include vacuuming, dusting, and wet cleaning of tabletops, counters, sinks, restrooms, and glass surfaces.
Maintains tile and carpeting in common areas with scheduled cleaning and polishing using floor machines as needed.
Washes walls or performs other non-scheduled cleaning for one-time projects as directed.
Removes snow, salts walks and keeps walkways clear during winter months
Performs outdoor lawn care and landscaping as needed
Changes light bulbs and filters as needed
Maintains mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners and other equipment in good working order.
Orders cleaning supplies as needed
Moves furniture, chairs, tables, podiums and other items for special events
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND FUNCTIONS
Knowledge of cleaning procedures, equipment and supplies
Skill in hard floor and carpet care, spills cleanup, preventive care of surfaces
Skills at following directions and routines
Climb and work from ladders
Lift up to 25 lbs. on a regular basis; up to 50 lbs. on occasion
Communication skills sufficient to perform essential functions of the position
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent, with trade school certification in custodial/janitorial training preferred.
Up to 3 years' custodial experience in a school or multi-building office/commercial space.
Able to work on ladders or scaffolding, and to walk, bend, crouch, lift, as needed to perform essential functions of the position.
Valid driver's license preferred.
