Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor and Assistant Supervisors, performs duties in accordance with established housekeeping standards. Custodians will maintain university buildings, including, but not limited to the following: sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping of floors; dusting furniture and various interior building components; cleaning windows, light fixtures, air-conditioning grilles, etc; cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, including all fixtures and showers; cleaning chalkboards and dry erase boards; replenishing paper towel, tissue, and soap dispensers; collect and dispose of trash.

Essential Functions:

  • Sweeps, mops and scrubs floors, stairs, and other surfaces.

  • Uses standard equipment such as buffers, burnishers, carpet extractors, and vacuums to scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors.

  • Performs work in accordance with EPA and OSHA safety standards.

  • Performs minor maintenance of housekeeping equipment.

  • Washes windows.

  • Washes and cleans walls.

  • Responds to critical emergency situations.

  • Moves furniture in a safe manner.

  • Conducts set ups for University events.

  • Performs all housekeeping tasks in a quality and timely manner.

  • Works hours as assigned and/or dictated by situations.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs other related assigned duties.

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform all physical essential custodial duties requiring bending, stooping, kneeling walking, carrying, reaching, moving items, climbing stairs and ladders; ability to lift, carry, push or pull a variety of carts and housekeeping equipment.

  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch.

  • Ability to lift approximately 35 pounds, and with assistance lift in excess of 100 pounds.

  • Ability to work in tight, limited space areas as well as high places.

  • Ability to use light and heavy commercial floor equipment

  • Ability to perform manual work including dumping large bags into dumpster, or transporting supplies, and equipment, such as vacuums, buckets, custodial paper products, etc.

  • Ability to read written instructions, signs, manuals, MSDS sheets, and product labels.

  • Knowledge of proper and safe use of cleaning chemicals.

  • Ability to follow through, carry out and complete work assignments.

  • Ability to maintain acceptable work habits, including, punctuality, regularity of attendance, and observe all work periods.

Education and Experience:

  • One year of experience performing all types of housekeeping related duties (required).
