Custodian

The Siouxland Heritage Museums invite applications for a Custodian. Become an integral part of maintaining the appearance and functionality of our Museums! This is a full-time position with a 7am to 4pm, Tuesday through Saturday schedule.

The hiring range for a Custodian is $17.93/hr to $19.79/hr with full earning potential of $25.98/hr.

• Perform a variety of general routine cleanup work including sweeping, vacuuming, stripping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors, wood paneling, and various surfaces by hand or machine. Clean and dust windows, sills, blinds, woodwork, furniture, doors, fixtures, drinking fountains, walls, ceilings, covers, and barriers.

• Perform general maintenance including painting walls, ceilings, windows, and doors. Repair broken and damaged windows and woodwork.
  
  Unclog toilets and sinks. Patch plaster and dry wall. Replace filters, light bulbs, and electrical ballasts. Assist contractors.

• Remove trash and recyclables from building and grounds.

• Clean, sanitize, and deodorize restrooms including toilets, sinks, walls, mirrors, doors, vents, floors, and counters. Replenish and unload supplies.

• Perform a variety of general routine outdoor maintenance work including mowing, trimming, raking and irrigating lawns, planting, transplanting, spraying, and irrigating shrubs, flowers, and trees. Remove snow. Sweep and mop entrances.

• Open and lock building and galleries. Turn lights on and off.

• Organize special events and concerts by setting up tables, chairs, and sound equipment.

Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, equipment, and supplies. Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a safe driving record with Minnehaha County.

Must successfully complete pre-employment background process. Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform moderately strenuous manual labor for extended periods of time. Ability to work independently.

Ability to learn the operation of small mechanized equipment and hand and power tools common to routine custodial work. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
