About the Position
Full-Time and Part-Time Opportunities Available
The primary function of an employee in this position is to perform routine custodial and cleaning tasks in assigned areas of County buildings on an assigned shift. The principal duties are performed in a public building environment including the use of electrically powered cleaning equipment and cleaning substances that may involve related hazards.

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS:
The tasks listed are a representation and not an all-inclusive list of essential job tasks for this position.
Ensures the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the County facilities to include jails, visitor areas, high-traffic, common, and employee areas.
Works with cleaning fluids, chemicals, cleaning agents or similar solutions using only standard protective equipment to maintain County facilities.
Operates, maintains and performs minor repairs to power-driven custodial equipment.
Maintains the safekeeping of keys used to lock/unlock secure areas to be cleaned.
Keeps and maintains work logs and records.
Inventory all cleaning supplies and equipment on a periodic basis.
Makes recommendations for purchases to management.
Coordinates and participate in training program for custodial personnel.
Inspects assigned work areas.
Analyzes field problems and develops proactive solutions.
Safely operates a county vehicle.
Performs ad-hoc projects as required.
Provides exemplary customer service.
Works effectively and safely in a high security jail environment, inmate housing and holding areas.
Must be willing to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and rotating shifts and weekends.
Be present at work site to perform assigned tasks at the times and dates scheduled and/or assigned by the supervisor.
Working conditions
Position may require contact with inmates depending on assignment; must be willing to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and rotating shifts/weekends as MCSO is a 24/7 operation.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of:
Janitorial chemicals.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), HAZMAT, Arizona safety and health law regulations.
Various computer programs.
Procedures related to the mixing of chemicals as well as materials used in custodial work
Skill in:
The operation of commercial janitorial equipment (i.e., vacuum cleaner, wet/dry vacuum, floor machines, mop, and mop wringer).
Maintaining logs and records.
Ability to:
Communicate effectively in English (verbal and written).
Learn effective operation of powered cleaning equipment and occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Transport and deliver documents and packages between MCSO facilities.
Multi-task.
Maintain cleanliness and safely operate a county vehicle.
Follow routine verbal and written instructions.
Be self-motivated and be able to think and work independently.
Work effectively and safely in a high security environment, which may or may include the presence of sentenced and non-sentenced inmates.
Supervise working inmates assigned to custodial duties, both inside and outside the secured jail perimeters.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
The Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified. Those selected will be assessed based on the evaluation of listed education and experience. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a list provided by Human Resources.

Typically, successful candidates are hired at a salary rate up to the midpoint of the range, based on relevant experience, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.
