Custodian I Performs entry-level custodial work. Work involves cleaning, disinfecting, sanitizing and caring for state buildings and premises (internal & external), and maintaining custodial equipment.

May inspect buildings for cleanliness and report-needed repairs as appropriate. May train others. Performs related work as assigned.

Works under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Work is moderately heavy, involving lifting & carrying objects. Tasks include but are not limited to: sweeping, mopping, dusting, spray waxing, floor stripping, buffing, polishing, scrubbing, carpet maintenance functions, moving furniture, cleaning offices, furniture, walls, windows, floors, empties trash, and all related duties.

Performs restroom maintenance, replenishing supplies and applying cleaning chemicals as appropriate. Measuring and using commercial janitorial chemicals with frequent contact with water and strong cleaning and disinfecting solutions. Some weekend, holiday, nighttime hours, on-call person may be required. Essential Job Functions:

Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

1.Performs general custodial functions such as sweeping; moping; dusting; cleaning windows; light fixtures; carpet care.

2.Performs restroom maintenance, replenish supplies and applying cleaning chemicals as appropriate.

3.Cleans, dusts, and disinfects area such as offices, furniture, windows, floors, walls, empty trash and other facilities.

4.Operates floor maintenance equipment, including buffers, vacuums, and extractors. Moving furniture and other items.

5.May perform minor maintenance and repair work on custodial equipment.

6.May inspect buildings for cleanliness and report needed repairs as appropriate.

7.May perform related work as assigned.

Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Knowledge Skills Abilities:

1.Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures.

2.Skills in the use of custodial materials and chemicals and operation of custodial equipment.

3.Ability to perform housekeeping/custodial duties.

4.Ability to stand and work for long periods of time.

5.Ability to bend and stretch to clean hard to reach areas.

6.Ability to work varied hours, including weekends and holidays, as necessary.

7.Ability to clearly understand oral and written instructions and to follow those directions.


Registration or Licensure

Requirements:

None Initial Selection Criteria:

1.Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred.

2.One (1) or more year experience in custodial maintenance techniques.

3.One (1) year of continuous work history.

Additional Information:

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, and HHS OIG list of Excluded Individuals/Entities. Males between the ages of 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

All applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at a state-operated facility.

Salary Note: The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the posted minimum of the salary range.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, healthcare workers are considered to be at significant risk for acquiring or transmitting hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), and influenza. All of these diseases are vaccine-preventable.

As a result, state hospital policy requires employees be vaccinated according to their level of contact with patients. In the event you choose to not be immunized for the influenza virus, you may be required to wear a mask and take other protective measures.
