  • Responsible for the daily supervision of up to 25 student workers and approximately 20 seasonal and temporary employees; and on occasion, full time custodians.

  • Interview and hire staff, conduct performance evaluations, and follow through with disciplinary actions; monitor work habits of staff to insure work quality and productivity.

  • Prioritize, coordinate, and schedule staff assignments on a daily, weekly and monthly basis; develop custodial care plans for work areas including monitoring the quality and hygiene levels in facilities.

  • Perform monthly building inspections on cleanliness, grading the overall appearance of the custodian's area of responsibility. Completed inspection sheet will be shared with the custodian responsible for the area.

  • Train staff in the area of industry standard cleaning practices and proper care and use of custodial equipment; implement quality assurance programs to insure duties are being performed and safety practices are followed.

  • Schedule and coordinate building cleaning to include routine and deep clean projects.

  • Evaluates and tests new equipment; purchase of custodial equipment; conducts inspections and evaluations to determine useful life expectancy of equipment; prepares long and short term goals and plans to replace equipment; schedule and coordinate equipment maintenance.

  • Orders and purchases supplies and replenish stocks in supply rooms.

  • Perform light and heavy-duty cleaning duties when staff coverage is inadequate.

  • Responsible for the University Housing sustainability efforts.

  • Maintain records and reports regarding product used and cleaning schedules

  • Position will coordinate with other trades, contractors and vendors as required to complete projects of larger scope.

  • Scheduling projects to include meeting with staff, tenants, and administrate staff to determine priorities for custodial activities.

  • Contact Residents to arrange requested or scheduled services.

  • Monitor and process work requests.

  • Attend departmental informational and planning meetings

  • Process payroll using Boise State systems and requirements.

  • Process monthly purchase card statements

  • Required to relocate inventory items and furniture and appliances within the housing facilities.

  • Position will have responsibilities to facility maintenance associated to seasonal weather conditions.

  • Procurement of staff uniforms


  • Three to five year's custodial experience in all aspects of custodial work to include methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work; custodial safety practices; cleaning agents and related products and their possible reactions; sanitation and infection control; using small hand tools; operating and maintaining industrial-type cleaning equipment.

  • Two years of custodial supervisory experience to include training methods, interviewing and hiring staff, conducting performance evaluations, and following through with discipline actions, experience maintaining and preparing records and reports.

  • Physical ability to: climb ladders, bend, stoop, lift and carry items weighing up to approximately 60 pounds and to stand and walk continuously throughout the shift.

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing; experience in writing performance evaluations.

The Boise Airport is looking to fill two temporary Airport Custodian vacancies. * One of the vacancies will work an average of 19-hours per week, second shift from 1:30 pm - 10:00 pm. * One of the vacancies will work an average of 40-hours per week, working 5:30 am - 2:00 pm. Essential Functions Cleans and stocks restrooms. Vacuums waiting areas, walkways and other carpeted areas in assigned section. Cleans carpets by extraction and aqua spotting. Picks up trash and empties trash receptacle in waiting areas, behind ticket/gate counters, and in the main airport area. Wipes tables and chairs in waiting areas. Vacuums stairwells, escalator grids, and elevator tracks. Spot cleans windows, stainless columns and trim. Mops and sweeps hard surface floors and performs scrub and wax recoating as needed. Cleans up spills. Cleans tenant lease space. Interacts with the general public and provides information or directs to appropriate personnel. Reports and follows up on safety issues identified during shift inspections. (70%) Performs special assignments related to weather. Shovels snow. Empties trash and removes trash can lids during high winds. Keeps hard surface floors dry during wet conditions to avoid safety concerns for passengers and tenants. (20%) Maintains awareness of airport security.
