This classification performs custodial work of routine difficulty, using a variety of cleaning materials and related equipment. Position will maintain all custodial duties including trash removal, mopping, vacuuming, clean windows, restrooms, furniture, stock custodial closets, reorder any stock. In addition, the position will identify any maintenance concerns and direct to maintenance department and Supervisor. Provide prompt and courteous service to co-workers and the general public.
Note: In addition to the qualifications set forth in this job description, employees holding this position must have a background allowing them to have regular access to secured areas of certain governmental facilities. Such employees may, due to policies of the Sheriff or Chief Circuit Judge, be subject to independent background investigations which exceed those conducted by Manatee County. Employees holding this position are hereby given notice that these independent officials, or their duly authorized representatives may, based on the results of their investigation, decline to permit the employee access to secured areas of facilities under their operational control. In the event the County is unable to fully utilize such employees in other County operations not requiring secured area access, such employees are subject to non-disciplinary separation from County employment.
Working Conditions
Constant: Work inside, with chemicals and solvents. Visual Frequent: Work in dry conditions, working with moving objects and with odors. Occasional: Work outside, in heat, cold, high humidity, in dampness or chilliness, in darkness, in or with dusty conditions, with grease or oils, on slippery surfaces, in or with ladders/scaffolding, at heights above ground level, with poor ventilation, and with unusual fatigue factors. Job Description
Essential Functions

Ensures the general cleanliness of assigned County offices and buildings.
Sweeps, mops, polishes and vacuums floors of assigned offices and buildings.
Washes walls, windows, ceiling vents, woodwork and mirrors, which may involve climbing ladder.
Cleans all rest rooms and fixtures; checks and stocks supplies; ensures that all lavatory installations are working and reports those that need repair; makes other minor repairs as needed.
Removes and disposes of all rubbish and trash in designated areas, clean desks, cabinets and furniture. May require crawling, kneeling and/or stooping to clean debris areas under desks, etc.
Performs major cleaning operations such as floor stripping.
May drive trash trucks to dump. Light duty trucks only.
May set up displays, conference rooms, etc.
May perform as a lead person providing training, guidance, and direction to employees of the same level or lower level regarding proper use of equipment and maintenance of offices and buildings.
May prepare reports and maintain work records, prepare estimates on the amounts and kinds of materials needed, and provide recommendation for preventative maintenance required to keep repair work to a minimum.
Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to read and write, understand and follow instructions is required.
Must be familiar with power tools, equipment and professional materials used in custodial services.
Valid drivers license required, with valid Florida driver's license required within 30 days of hire.

At least one-year experience in janitorial or related custodial work highly desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Constant: Lifting 15-44 lbs., use of fingers, both hands, good vision near and far, good hearing, walking, standing and bending.
Knowledge of building/office cleaning processes, supplies and equipment.
Knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with materials and equipment.
Ability to read instructions on cleaning supplies.
Ability to understand and carry out oral instructions.
Ability to perform routine custodial duties without immediate supervision.

Reaching above shoulder, pushing, kneeling and balancing. Occasional: Climbing ladder, reaching, distinguishing shades of colors, crawling, kneeling, stooping, and operating a vehicle.
Area of Assignment-Parks and Beaches: Property Management
Work is mostly outside. Main responsibility is to ensure the cleanliness of Manatee County Parks and Beaches. Primary duties include but are not limited to: Trash pickup and removal, sweeping, mopping, cleaning restrooms, pressure washing pavilions and amenities. This position requires constant lifting of 15-44 lbs., reaching above shoulder height, pushing, kneeling, crawling, stooping, walking on uneven surfaces, and bending. Climbing a ladder may also be required.
