American Red Cross is seeking a in Lansing, MI. This is a Union - LN3 position.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview):

Clean facilities and work areas including furnishings, bathrooms, fixtures, walls and floors to ensure they meet health and safety standards and present an attractive appearance. Use maintenance supplies, remove waste material, and maintain inventory of tools and supplies. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.

Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State and local regulations.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE GOOD (Key Responsibilities):

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms using established practices and procedures.

  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture, sweep, mop, or vacuum floors. Empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers, empty and clean ash trays and cigarettes urns, replace light bulbs, and refill restroom dispensers.

  • Assist with the setup of facilities for meeting, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.

  • Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools, buffers, scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers and other equipment for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc. 5.Recruit, train and work with volunteers and treat all clients, volunteers, guests, and other employees in a courteous and respectful manner at all times while maintaining a cooperative atmosphere for everyone. Work with a volunteer counterpart to ensure key volunteers are utilized and ensure depth within the function.

  • Carry out any additional assignments required to fulfill the Mission of the American Red Cross

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Education: High School or equivalent required.

  • Experience: 1 year of related experience preferred.

  • Management Experience: N/A

  • Skills & Abilities: Practical skills and knowledge of building maintenance and material management required.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.

  • Ability to work on a team.

  • Travel: May travel and participate in meetings and conferences. A valid driver's license is required.

  • Combination of candidate's education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description's minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

  • Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
