Position Information

Winthrop Position Title Custodial Supervisor State Title Building/Grounds Spec II State Class Code KA10 State Pay Band 02 Annual Salary/Hiring Range $35,337 Job Purpose

Reporting to the Superintendent for Custodial Services, the Custodial Supervisor oversees the work of up to 20 custodial workers and assists with custodial duties as needed to keep assigned buildings and surrounding areas clean.

Job Summary

  • Drives university van to transport work crews and supplies to and from assigned buildings and work sites throughout the day.

  • Assists assigned staff in performing custodial services, including stripping and waxing tile floors, cleaning restrooms, washing windows, cleaning carpets, etc.

  • Regularly checks the work of assigned staff to ensure buildings are clean and that work is done properly.

  • Plans daily and weekly work schedules for assigned staff in consultation with supervisor.

  • Trains new employees in the use and care of equipment and supplies.

  • Maintains supply and equipment inventories; conveys needs to superintendent; and makes purchases from Central Supply.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma, two years of custodial services work experience and valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

At least three years of custodial work experience, including supervisory experience. Experience with floor and carpet maintenance and proficiency using related equipment, including buffers, extractors, etc. Experience in a higher education or academic setting helpful.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Summary

Working knowledge of the techniques, practices, supplies and equipment used in the custodial services trade. Knowledge of the techniques and practices of carpet care and stripping/waxing tile floors. Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions. Ability to direct the work of others. Ability to drive the van used to transport employees and supplies. Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
