Position Summary:

Custodial Supervisor Senior

  • Statehouse

The position functions as a working supervisor with responsibility to oversee four (4) Custodial Specialist positions. During the Legislative Session, an additional six (6) temporary employees are hired to meet the additional workload. Work hours are 4:00 pm to 12:30 am.

A wide range of duties and responsibilities are assigned in the following areas: equipment maintenance, customer service, proficiency in computer, communication skills and customer service.

  • Equipment Maintenance. The Supervisor is responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance on very costly equipment. Without the Supervisor inspecting, applying corrective actions, and reporting all maintenance, the life span for the equipment would be significantly shortened. Additionally, it ensures that equipment assigned to both AM and PM shifts are ready for daily and emergency use.

  • Technical Expertise. The Supervisor in this position, must possess detailed knowledge of floor work. This includes carpet, wood, terrazzo, ceramic and tiled floors. The Supervisor must independently identify needed work, plan for the work, order supplies, train assigned employees, coordinate with customers to control access, and be directly involved in completing all floor care. With the openness of the floors and volume of visitors, this has a high impact on their enjoyment in visiting the State Capitol.

  • Customer Service. The Supervisor is responsible for providing high levels of customer service during their shift. This could involve spills, special cleaning requests, event set ups and teardown, and interaction with visitors. Must be able to interpret event setups and make on-the-spot decisions involving changes from the customer. During session, Supervisor must respond to unscheduled, late work sessions. This requires on-the-spot decisions to modify employee work assignments to ensure that all assigned work gets completed.

  • Computer Skills. The Supervisor must be proficient in using computers to support daily activities. This includes:

  • TMA to retrieve open work orders, appropriately assign work requests, and to close out open work orders,

  • Email to effectively communicate with the AM shift Custodial Manager,

  • Word program to prepare critical disciplinary documentation and to maintain employee files.

  • Communication Skills. Communicates daily with all levels of elected officials including the Governor's Office, visitors, and vendors. Communication must be clear, concise, brief, and courteous. The Supervisor must project an image that represents the entire Department and it's assigned mission. Ensures the a.m. shift is provided feedback about p.m. shift and its impact on a.m. operations.

  • Cleanliness Standards. All work at the Statehouse must be to level one standard. This requires additional time, effort, and inspections to ensure that all custodial tasks are completed to exacting standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

One year of experience in custodial work. Prefer supervisory and leadership experience.
