The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), Campus Services division is recruiting for experienced Custodial Staff to oversee the custodial operations and overall cleanliness of the Alaska Airlines Center (AAC). With 196,000 square feet and seating for up to 5,000 guests, the Alaska Airlines Center is the premier entertainment venue of not just Anchorage but the state of Alaska. Hosting events that welcome guests from all across the state and beyond, the Custodial Staff plays a crucial role in ensuring the facility lives up to being the crown jewel of UAA by maintaining the highest cleanliness and safety standards.

This role is responsible for supervising a team of custodial staff, coordinating cleaning schedules, and maintaining a high level of cleanliness throughout the facility and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

The ideal candidate will have superior attention to detail and a commitment to providing a safe and sanitary environment for all patrons and staff. As needed the Custodial Staff will provide support outside typical responsibilities to all aspects of divisional need to further the goals and mission of Campus Services.

This role is responsible for maintaining a high level of cleanliness throughout the facility. The ideal candidate will have superior attention to detail and a commitment to providing a safe and sanitary environment for all patrons and staff. As needed the Custodial Staff will provide support outside typical responsibilities to all aspects of divisional need to further the goals and mission of Campus Services.

A successful candidate should encompass the following skills and abilities:

Commercial custodial knowledge and experience.

Experience with commercial janitorial motorized machines such as floor scrubbers, buffers and carpet cleaning machines to include high pressure and truck mounted extractors.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Superior attention to detail.

Good problem-solving skills.

Ability to multi-task and switch between tasks quickly.

Ability to work independently and in group settings.

Ability to operate tools and use cleaning chemicals according to safe work practices.

Ability to maintain inventories, transport and stock supplies.

Experience with and knowledge of safe working practices with bloodborne pathogens and other biohazards.

Ability to read and interpret manuals and technical instructions to calculate amounts of such as proportions, percentages, area of volume to use the correct amount of chemicals and ensure the proper application.

Must be able to work variable shifts and overtime as needed based on operational needs.

Ability to promote diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion in the execution of roles.

Ability to work within diverse and inclusive work teams toward common vision or goal(s); establishes oneself as an essential team contributor.

Extensive knowledge of general custodial, janitorial or housekeeping practices and procedures.

The position hours are as follows: 6:00am to 2:30pm and 2:00pm to 10:30pm. When there are events (concerts, banquets, sporting events, etc.) that require additional post-event cleaning, candidates must be flexible to change work schedules as needed to include late night. Successful candidates for this position must be able to work the scheduled start times listed above.

Candidates must have willingness to rotate shifts at the discretion of the Custodial Supervisor.

The ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, problem-solve efficiently, and adapt to changing situations is crucial. Effective communication skills are essential for liaising with supervisor, building management, and guests, ensuring smooth operations and addressing any issues promptly. Candidates should also exhibit a commitment to upholding cleanliness standards, safety protocols, and equipment maintenance procedures. Ultimately, a successful Custodial Staff will be dedicated, reliable, and capable of delivering consistently high-quality service.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have a earned a high school diploma or equivalent GED.

A valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required.

One (1) year of demonstrated work history within commercial custodial, commercial janitorial or commercial housekeeper sectors.

FERPA certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.

Title IX certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.

Behavior Based Safety (BBS) certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.

Workplace Harassment Prevention certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.

Other training as assigned.

Position Details:

Base Salary Range: MSW3 Step 1 - $19.23. (See Article 9.2 in the L6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wage Grade Schedule).

This is a Term Funded full-time, 12-month, non-exempt staff position with a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. The current Local 6070 collective bargaining agreement also offers annual wage increases, longevity incentive pay, educational incentive pay and recognition bonuses.

Current University of Alaska Local 6070 employees will be provided priority employment considerations for the first 5 days, when they meet the minimum qualifications for the posted position. Current University of Alaska Local 6070 employees who meet the minimum qualifications for the posting should apply before the review date. However, there is no requirement to be a Bargaining Unit Member in order to apply.
