Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads - both students and employers - for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC's institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The Custodial Service Manager plans, administers, manages, inspects and participates (working supervisor) in the activities of a campus-wide custodial services operation. Responsible for personnel and property protection, equipment needs analysis and recommendations for improvements, the procurement of custodial equipment and supplies, campus-specific custodial personnel actions, development of custodial/cleaning standards and inspections, and monitors and maintains the cleanliness of campus-wide buildings .
This position has been designated an essential position. The employee filling this position may be required to report to work or otherwise fulfill the responsibilities of the position in the event of a college/ campus closure due to weather or other emergent condition(s)
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of the principles and practices of janitorial, custodial, and housekeeping services, and sanitizing techniques.
Considerable experience as a first line shift supervisor or manager in a janitorial, custodial, or housekeeping program/environment.
Knowledge of custodial operations and industry standards.
Knowledge of management practices and principles including budgeting, contract administration, procurement, and supervision.
Knowledge of multi-building housekeeping operations; preferably in an educational institution.
Knowledge of and ability to use office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners.
Ability to supervise and train employees and staff in safety and custodial matters.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Valid driver's license.
Additional Considerations
Knowledge of and ability to use a variety of PC-based software including word-processing, spreadsheets, database, and Power Point.
Experience within a multi-building housekeeping operation.
Formal training in a janitorial, custodial, or housekeeping program/environment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
