Custodial Manager

Job Description:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies and applicable laws. Oversees, reviews and trains all Custodial Staff in all capacities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises subordinate supervisors and custodial personnel and projects.

  • Manages the daily operation of the custodial department including emergency calls, scheduling, & work assignments.

  • Review, assess and coordinate custodial services with external, contracted custodial service providers and provide direction and guidance, as needed.

  • Develops and executes a system of internal controls which provide reasonable assurance that unit operations are effective and efficient, unit assets are safeguarded, unit financial information is reliable, and the unit complies with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures

  • Plans and coordinates all custodial programs and establishes standards and work procedures for custodial staff.

  • Organizes, plans and directs all in-house training programs on custodial management services and safety programs.

  • Ensures the proper use of chemicals and equipment to maintain all campus buildings on a daily basis.

  • Inspects and evaluates physical condition of establishment; submits to management recommendations for painting, repairs, furnishings, relocation of equipment, and maintenance.

  • Purchases all cleaning supplies and equipment and determine replacement according to usage and budget; maintains detailed inventories of all shop supplies, machinery, and equipment; investigates new and improved cleaning instruments and methods.

  • Carries MSMU cell phone at all times and must be available for "On-Call Duty."

  • Interprets, prioritizes and assigns work orders to personnel and plans work schedules to ensure adequate service.

  • Estimates labor and material cost; reports the estimate to superior and work order initiator.

  • Interprets and translates company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations by conducting safety meetings.

  • Coordinates with other trades and department supervisors on work projects and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job.

  • Develops and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, and working conditions to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems; initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.

  • Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.

  • Complies with all State and University policies.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment to include: Steel toe or Non-slippery shoes, back belt, eye protection, and rubber or leather gloves.

Uniform Requirements and Dress Code

It is the policy of Mount St. Mary's University that each employee's dress, grooming, and personal hygiene should be appropriate to the work situation.

  • All Custodial Staff will be issued a uniform that must be worn each day. Employees are expected at all times to present a professional, business-like image to students, prospects, and the public. Acceptable personal appearance, like proper maintenance of work areas, is an ongoing requirement of employment with the Mount.

  • Radical departures from conventional dress or personal grooming and hygiene standards are not permitted.

  • Hair should be clean, combed, and neatly trimmed or arranged. Shaggy, unkempt hair is not permissible regardless of length. Hair color should be a natural color (no pink, blue, green, purple, etc.) Sideburns, moustaches, and beards should be neatly trimmed.

  • Tattoos and body piercings/gauges (other than 1 earring per ear) should not be visible.
