Georgia State University, Department of Recreational Services, is searching for an outstanding candidate to fill the role of Custodial Foreperson.

  • Directly supervises the work assignments for 7 subordinates

  • Provides training for subordinates in methods and procedures as needed

  • Prepares reports on work performances, including work inspections and disciplinary actions

  • Inspects facilities and furnishings for needed cleaning/repairs

  • Performs assigned daily custodial duties

  • Inspects work of subordinates, makes corrections as needed

  • Directs room set-up and break downs for events

  • Respond to day to day custodial emergencies as needed

  • Serves as shift coordinator for scheduling and tracking attendance, reporting absences, and adjusting work assignments to ensure that cleaning assignments are covered and completed. Approves payroll for 7 subordinates

  • Inventories and prepares orders for custodial equipment and supplies

  • Reports equipment discrepancies to expedite repairs

  • Assists with day-to-day chemical management of swimming pools as needed

  • Performs cleaning duties for absent co-workers

  • Performs other professional duties as assigned

High school diploma or GED and three years of related experience in an institutional, industrial, or commercial setting, including two years of supervisory or lead worker experience. A valid Georgia driver's license may be required for some positions.

VIEW JOBS 3/27/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-06-25T00:00 This position is with in the Building Service Grounds Department of Facilities Management Services. Schedule: Monday through Friday 6:00am -2:45pm. A Ground Foreperson is responsible for the overall appearance of the urban Georgia State University grounds. Position ensures that grounds are well maintained, presenting a beautifully landscaped and marketable image, providing a functional and safe environment for students, employees, and guests. GSU downtown campus is located in the greater Atlanta downtown area. Therefore, the Grounds Department works in between heavy foot and vehicular traffic to remove trash around buildings, parking lots throughout the day. A Grounds Foreperson must have strong leadership skills, leading the crew to maintain the upkeep and oversee landscaping operations for the entire downtown campus including 17 parking facilities. This position also has lead oversight of the University after-hours and regular hour's inclement weather response Duties: * Conducts daily meeting, directly assigns staff duties; sets standard for the quality and quantity of work assignment. Provides clear instructions for normal operations and special assignments. Ensures employees have proper/necessary supplies and equipment to accomplish work tasks. Establishes and implements the daily, weekly and seasonal schedules for maintenance and operations of campus landscape. * Safely operate University vehicles and transportation equipment. Walks through and inspects campus for compliance with grounds maintenance programs. Uses work order system to plan and assign projects. Follows up on work tasks completion and take corrective action if needed. Monitors employee attendance and prepare daily absenteeism report. Maintains supplies and equipment inventories. Manages the equipment inventory, irrigation installations, equipment repair, and scheduling of fertilization and chemical application programs. * Responsible for developing, delivering and evaluating comprehensive training to all assigned employees to maintain professionalism, quality standards, customer service and job expectations in line with organizational mission. * Trains staff on proper usage, storage and mixture of pesticides. Trains staff on all power equipment such as rototiller, chain saw, aerator, fertilizer and pesticides applicator, hedge trimmers, blowers, commercial mowers, tractors/ bush hog and edger's. Manages the safety practices and procedures on all equipment. Supervises the cleaning and upkeeps of 17 parking facilities, multi-layered decks and surface lots. Trains personnel to operate large street sweepers, pressure washers (hot and cold) to clean decks and lots. Manages and monitors unit budget by utilizing cost efficient practices. * Meets with vendors and contractors to acquire quotes for any services and equipment. Works on new projects and landscape installations. * Meets with Operations Manager daily to discuss operational issues. Manages project requests from Director and/or Manager. * Performs personnel management functions including performance reviews, goal setting and managing misconduct or non-performance of employee. * Actively participates in university activities such as Commencement. Prepares for inclement weather operations. * Perform other duties as assigned or requested. High school diploma or GED and three years of grounds keeping experience including two years supervisory or lead worker experience. A valid Georgia driver's license is required.
