The Social Studies Curriculum Supervisor will be responsible for leadership in curriculum development, student-centered instruction, assessment, and daily management of the Social Studies Department. The Curriculum Supervisor will be responsible for the evaluation of assigned departmental personnel. Supervisors shall work cooperatively with teachers, building administrators, other Curriculum Supervisors, and the Assistant Superintendent to assure professional best practices.

Curriculum Supervisors report to the Assistant Superintendent while working under the direction of building Principals.

Curriculum Supervisors shall be DESE certified (or be eligible for certification) as a Supervisor/Director or Building Administrator. Preferred SEI Administrator endorsed. Curriculum Supervisors are evaluated by the Assistant Superintendent with input from the building Principals.

Duties include but are not limited to:
Work with the Principal and Assistant Superintendent in the educational, curricular, and instructional leadership of the 6-12 Social Studies Curriculum;
Foster the development of a positive, respectful school climate within a department;
Coordinate the development and assessment of Social Studies curriculum;
Evaluate student performance on state and local assessments;
Collaborate with teachers within the department to assist them in nurturing student achievement;
Assist the Principal in the supervision and evaluation of professional staff and holding them accountable for instruction and development of departmental curriculum;
Assist the Principal in the recruitment, hiring, and scheduling of professional staff;
Assist in the administration of MCAS or Benchmark testing;
Serve as a member of standing committees as needed;
Communicate instructional programs to parents and the community;
Prepare written reports to the Principal, Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent as requested;
Coordinate student-centered learning programs related to assigned department;
Assist the Principal in planning regular meetings of the faculty and staff, and other work groups within the school, and presides over such meetings when assigned by the Assistant Superintendent;
Teach the equivalent of a .2 FTE
Assist the Principal in the development of the departmental budget and schedule;
Oversee the ordering and maintains the necessary level of supplies to support teachers in the Social Studies Department;
Meet with students and families;
Participate in personal professional development to remain knowledgeable on current best practices;
Assist with building-based professional development activities;
Assist building administrators with daily building operations as needed;
Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent
Curriculum Supervisors shall work the school year, excluding school vacations and holidays. In addition, the employee will work five (5) days before and after the school year, plus an additional fifteen (15) days during the summer months. Exceptions to this work schedule must be approved in advance by the Superintendent. Supervisors will receive a salary regionally competitive and commensurate with experience. Contract duration will be negotiated with the Superintendent.
