DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health Sciences encompasses UC San Diego Health, the region's only academic health system, UC San Diego School of Medicine, one of the nation's top research-intensive medical schools, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Southern California's first public school of pharmacy, and Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science. UC San Diego Health Sciences' mission is to deliver outstanding patient care through commitment to the community, groundbreaking research and inspired teaching.

The division of Medical Education within the UC San Diego School of Medicine consists of the following units: Undergraduate Medical Education, Admissions & Student Affairs, Diversity and Community Partnerships, Graduate Medical Education, Continuing Medical Education & Faculty Development, Simulation Education, Physician Assistant Education, Anatomical Services, Business Affairs and Educational Technology. The division supports the education, training and co-curricular activities of approximately 560 medical students, 90 physician assistant students, 1000 residents and fellows as well as the faculty, physician and healthcare providers at UCSD's School of Medicine, its' Medical Centers, and affiliates.

Under supervision, the Curriculum Coordinator at UC San Diego School of Medicine (SOM) supports the School of Medicine's core courses. This position works in the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) and reports to the Preclinical Curriculum Supervisor as part of the curriculum support team.

In consultation with department leadership and course directors, this position is responsible for coordinating and planning preclinical courses throughout the academic year. Tasks include organizing and posting course materials and schedules within the learning management system, scheduling rooms, and coordinating AV/IT support for classrooms and instructors.

The Curriculum Coordinator will track student completion of course assignments and progression throughout each applicable course. Additionally, the Coordinator is responsible for proctoring exams and review sessions.

The incumbent regularly communicates to stakeholders and disseminates guidelines and procedures to course directors, students, facilitators, visitors, and department leadership. The position will track applicable course facilitator recruitment and hours to uphold compliance with university and departmental guidelines.

The Curriculum Coordinator will assist with special projects, events, and serve as back-up for colleagues in Undergraduate Medical Education, as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Six years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor's degree in related area plus two years of related experience/training.

  • Interpersonal skills to work with department senior management, faculty, and students.

  • Ability in problem identification, reasoning, analysis to identify trends.

  • Ability to find solutions to conflicting situations.

  • Excellent communication skills to communicate clearly, effectively and tactfully to all levels of clients, academic, administrative and staff personnel within the university.

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously requiring experience with prioritizing tasks due to challenges such as shifting priorities, fluctuating workloads, and deadline pressures. Time management skills to include ability to monitor tasks and projects, making resourceful and creative decisions to ensure timely delivery.

  • Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions. Ability to work effectively, efficiently and apply attention to detail while working on multiple tasks at the same time. Ability to appropriately apply policies and procedures.

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to work independently and manage heavy workload to meet shifting deadlines and priorities.

  • Excellent record keeping skills, including ability to design and maintain extensive database information. Skill in developing, implementing, and maintaining efficient record keeping and filing systems for retrieval by self and others.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member with department.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to counsel students on a variety of problems with tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity.

  • Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Very rarely, overtime and evenings may be required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $52,100 - $87,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $24.95 - $42.10

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
