Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 - 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Culture and Climate Specialist will be directly responsible to the building Principal for all matters pertaining to the operation of the school discipline and attendance plans, in-building administrative and personnel procedures, and general or district-wide policies. The Culture and Climate Specialist will serve as a student support advocate to focus on discipline and attendance.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists and support the Principal and to create the school wide discipline and attendance guidelines;

  • Assists School Leadership, as a Co-Facilitator, to design the school Discipline Plan with the staff team of five;

  • Create data reports weekly/daily to analyze discipline and attendance data to reflect on current practices and make the necessary adjustments to increase attendance and decrease acts of misconduct;

  • Schedule parent and student meetings to discuss concerns, consequences and expectations. Write discipline and/or attendance contracts (due process honored);

  • Respond to discipline referrals and recommend the next steps;

  • Organize celebratory events to celebrate culture and climate achievement;

  • Monitor daily operations to ensure a safe environment;

  • Organize systems, structures and routines to support lunchroom, transition, entry and dismissal expectations;

  • Organize and perform all duties to assure the efficient operation of the ISS room;

  • Work with the administration in the implementation and administration of ISS;

  • Work closely with the School Leadership team on disciplinary referrals;

  • Work closely with the School Leadership team to oversee student attendance;

  • Provide on-going analysis of student performance data related to ISS and Detention to the Principal;

  • Maintain up-to-date files and assist with timely follow-up to student missed detentions and ISS;

  • Maintain a cordial, respectful and collaborative relationship with all administrators, teachers, parents, and state and local educational personnel;

  • Establish, implement and monitor electronic protocol for teachers to send work to ISS;

  • Implement a program of study using a dedicated curriculum to minimize high-risk/low-gain behaviors;

  • Share regular monitoring reports of ISS work with Principal;

  • Supervise and maintain constant visibility of all students assigned to ISS;

  • Assist with all other duties as assigned by the school and district leadership, or his/her designee.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree, Masters preferred.

  • Experience working with at-risk students within a public school setting.

  • High quality organization and communication skills.
