Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Cultural Resource Research Lead to work in our Environment, Safety, Health and Quality department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Research and Education Campus in Idaho Falls, Idaho with every other Friday off.

You will report to the Senior Manager of the Cultural Resources Management Office (CRMO). You will Provide strategic leadership to CRMO Manager and staff in directing and performing archaeological and cultural resources research. Responsibilities include creating a National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) Section 110 compliant program that innovates cultural resource research on the eastern Snake River Plain and through active research, partnerships, tribal interactions, publications, public outreach, and training.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Establish strategies for assigned Section 110 scope that is consistent with mission objectives.

  • Participate in discussions with regulators and partners as a Lab representative.

  • Be the CRMO research lead and as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for CRMO providing leadership and expertise in the development, and oversight of research and Section 110 efforts.

  • CRMO staff seek input and approval from CRMO Research Lead on the direction of research, research designs, presentation of results, publications, etc.

  • CRMO Research Lead will ensure all research is aligned with the Precontact Context, Pre-WWII Historic Contexts, and Built Environment Contexts and seek opportunities to revise, expand, and address overarching themes and research questions.

  • CRMO Research Lead will seek opportunities to partner with other researchers, universities, or organizations to fill in knowledge and data gaps within the CRMO.

  • CRMO Research Lead will lead and produce publication worthy research results in peer-reviewed journals.

  • CRMO Research Lead will revise and adapt Section 110 related procedures based on new information and as contexts are developed.

  • CRMO Research Lead will stay up to date on the most recent theory and methods within the cultural resource management field through virtual or in person training and share information with CRMO staff.

  • CRMO Research Lead will provide presentations and training to CRMO staff on research designs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Level 4 - Masters degree in cultural resource management, anthropology, archaeology, historic preservation and 6 years of relevant experience or a PhD and 4 years of relevant experience.

  • Level 5 - Masters degree in cultural resource management, anthropology, archaeology, historic preservation and 8 years of relevant experience or a PhD and 6 years of relevant experience.

  • Relevant experience in cultural resource management which may include NHPA Section 106 and Section 110 process, compliance as pertains to archaeology, built environment, and archival material.

  • Meet Secretary of Interior guidelines. ( https://www.nps.gov/articles/sec-standards-prof-quals.htm)

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Desired Experience:

  • Research expertise and interest in Desert West Prehistory, Great Basin Prehistory, Great Plains Prehistory, Terminal Pleistocene Adaptations, Zooarchaeology, Lithic Technology, Stable Isotope Analysis, XRF Analysis.

  • 15 years of full-time experience in archaeological research or cultural resource management.

  • 10 publications in peer-reviewed journals, edited volumes of books, etc.

  • Experience with contracting, agreements, and partnerships with universities, agencies, or other institutions.

Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 4 ($109,260 - $223,908 ) / Level 5 ($130,980 - $268,680 ). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
