You will be working closely with the leaders in the hospitality group at Shippensburg University, developing skills and competencies to understand what is needed to be successful in the world of hospitality and culinary arts. You will gain valuable experience in the culinary arts field including but not limited to: operations, ability to read and follow a standard recipe, sanitation and safety, guest services, problem resolution, menu planning and development, implementation of innovation and client relationship skills. This internship involves hands on experience working in the world of hospitality which will guide you to set the stage for your personal success in a culinary career.

Job Responsibilities

The Culinary & Sustainability Intern will assist the Campus Executive Chef with administrative tasks to include:

  • Work with the Chef to input the menu into Webtrition

  • Print signage to use each meal period with proper nutrition labeling

  • Track waste and input into Waste Not program

  • Input sustainability information into the Carbon Foodprint database

  • Research local businesses for local partnerships opportunities

  • Assist with marketing events as needed

  • Other tasks as assigned

  • Demonstrate awareness, understanding and skills necessary to work in a diverse environment.

  • Experience opportunities to learn, observe, and practice a variety of experiences in the world of hospitality and culinary arts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Takes orders from customer and prepares items requiring short preparation. Completes orders from steam tables and serves customers at multiple stations. * Serves customers in an efficient, friendly manner following established steps of service meeting outlined standards.
