Job Description:
SUNY Schenectady County Community College is seeking a full-time Culinary Arts Instructor to join the Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism department in the Division of Academic Affairs.

Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism, the culinary faculty member will provide instruction to culinary students. A full-time teaching load generally consists of 15 credit hours or 18 contact hours per semester.

Faculty members at SUNY Schenectady are responsible for assessment, course and program development, collaboration across disciplines, departmental work, and other duties as assigned. The culinary faculty member will be a roundsperson, able to teach culinary arts courses such as, but not limited to, Basic and Advanced Food Preparation, Basic and Advanced Baking, Garde Manger, Quantitative Foods (Banquet) and Cuisine (restaurant). The faculty member will need to design menus and order ingredients for labs following standardized procedures. This individual may be required to advise students in club activities, coach students in ACF sanctioned culinary arts competitions and to supervise students at special events (e.g.

Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes) as needed. The position will also involve special catering events and high school recruitment. Working in an area subject to variations in temperature and noise will be required. This is a 10-month position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching a full-time course load; Utilizing Brightspace-or other college adopted course learning software to support classes; Recruiting of prospective culinary students; Providing office hours for students; Preparing and administering assessment instruments; Developing and implementing programs in collaboration with the School of Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism; Participating in program review, assessment activities, and division meetings and activities; Serving on college committees; Ensuring adequate instructional supplies; Ensuring that students follow conduct, safety, and sanitation guidelines; and Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or higher in culinary or hospitality field; An Associate's degree in Baking & Pastry Arts or Culinary Arts, with experience as an executive chef, may be considered. Proven cooking, baking, and pastry experience Solid culinary skills as listed in the knowledge areas; Proven culinary experience in both banquet and a la carte cooking Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel; A demonstrated knowledge of sanitation (certification or job experience); and ACF certification (CEPC, CCE, or CEC), or commitment to obtain said certification/s within 5 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

Teaching experience, preferably in a Community College setting
