From transporting and setting up blood collection equipment at work sites, to drawing blood from donors, as a Phlebotomist-Driver with the American Red Cross you will work all aspects of blood drives at schools, offices & churches throughout Lansing MI and the surrounding areas. Responsibilities
1.Comply with applicable Federal, State and local regulations as well as all American Red Cross policies, procedures and guidelines.
2.Perform whole blood collection procedures (allogeneic, autologous, directed, automated red cell) donor collections. Performs all types of donor health history screening and eligibility procedures.
3.Conduct donor greeting, donor reaction care and processing and packing of blood as assigned.
4.Perform daily function checks, assemble and maintain supplies and equipment to ensure a state of readiness and to maintain compliance.
5.Function with team effort to ensure efficient donation process focused on donor and sponsor expectations. Maintain positive public relations to promote a professional image.
6.May operate ARC vehicle. May transport supplies and equipment in a state of readiness and to ensure compliance. May operate assigned vehicle according to applicable regulations. Collections Staff that is hired with DOT driving responsibilities will perform vehicle checks and complete DOT paperwork per established protocol.
7.Load, set up, maintain and tear down supplies and equipment in a state of readiness and to ensure compliance.
8.Complete required readings and training assignments by assigned deadline.
9.Perform other related duties as necessary.

Scope

May drive ARC vehicles throughout the blood region to collection sites, set-up and tear down and provide other related donor and operation support. Will have frequent external customer (donor and sponsor) contact.

Balance production, customer service and compliance on a day-to-day basis to ensure integrity of the product and optimum donor experience. As integral link between donors and ARCBS, portray a commitment to customer service by conveying and demonstrating a consistent style of professionalism.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Medical assistant or phlebotomy training preferred.

Documented satisfactory performance as Collections Technician II or the equivalent experience is required. Customer service experience, effective verbal communication and public relations skills are required. A current valid driver's license and good driving record is required.

Previous truck and/or bus driving experience is desirable. Collections Staff that is hired with DOT driving responsibilities will be required to pass DOT physical and related requirements and be able to posses or obtain a medical certification of at least one year duration. Basic computer skills desirable. Applicable local licensure if required by state directives.

Therefore the work site may determine the exposure level to be greater than or less than the below stated level.

This position is an exposure determination 1 in view of the fact that the position requires the incumbent work under conditions where the potential exists for the incumbent to make contact with blood or blood components as a result of splashes, spills, and/or needlesticks.

VIEW JOBS 10/4/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-01-02T00:00 Responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). 1 In compliance with SOPs perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, donor monitoring and donor disconnect. 2 In compliance with SOPs and Food & Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines, performs venipuncture on donors to begin pheresis process. 3 Evaluates vein performance of the donor to identify possible problems; makes necessary corrections in order to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety. Ensures donation process is efficient and makes adjustments when necessary to make the process a positive experience for the donor. 4 May educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma. Explains the screening process, the health screening tests performed, the appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition and any other information pertinent to the donor. Ensures that all donor questions are answered timely, accurately and professionally. 5 Maintains alertness to any reaction by donors and assists with reactions or notifies appropriate staff. 6 Uses Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents that occur during the pheresis process, such as machine alerts and alarms, volume variances and donor adverse events. 7 Required to perform calibrations and verify that maintenance has been performed as outlined in the SOPs. Required to respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues. 8 Troubleshoots equipment failures. Creates incident documentation, removes and/or replaces equipment from service. 9 Monitors donor flow on the donor floor to assure continuous turnover. Alerts Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues. 10 May provide guidance and technical training about processes and procedures to donor floor staff and other staff as required. 11 Collects arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing. 12 Ensures the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). 13 Understands the policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center if applicable. 14 Maintains clean efficient work environment, and ensures sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed. Follows all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures. Promotes safety in all actions. May conduct routine audits of these internal procedures and documentation. 15 Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor and center information. 16 May be cross-trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business. 17 Bilingual skills may be required, at the discretion of the organization, to meet the needs of the business. 18 Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
