Position: CTE Teacher: Emergency Medical Technology (EMT) and Public Safety

Location: Lincoln County School of Technology

Terms of Contract: 10 months, Full-time, benefit eligible

Reports To: Principal / CTE Director

Monthly Salary: Teacher State Salary Schedule ( plus local supplement)

FLSA: EXEMPT

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in any area of Public Safety; OR

  • Associate's Degree in any area of Public Safety with emphasis on Public Safety and EMT OR

  • High School diploma with related Public Safety/EMT work experience.

  • Related Work Experience:

  • minimum of two years with a Bachelor's degree OR

  • minimum of four years with an Associate's degree OR

  • minimum of six years with a high school diploma; AND

  • Must hold the NC OEMS EMT Instructor training prior to teaching; AND

  • Must complete the NCDPI

  • The successful applicant MUST complete the CTE New Teacher Institute or complete 18 semester hours and the NCDPI CTE New Teacher Institute

Goal: To provide each student with meaningful instruction for and about public safety, Emergency Medical services and related careers. Health Science/EMT Education plays a major role in meeting present and predicted needs for public service professionals. Additionally, Health Science Public Safety Education prepares graduates as viable competitors in the healthcare industry and for advanced educational opportunities.

Duties:

  • Teach knowledge and skills in all of the following subjects to secondary pupils: corrections, emergency and fire management, security and protection, law enforcement and legal services, and Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T), and emergency medical services and related clinical skills determined by NCOEMS.

  • Successfully prepare Emergency Medical Technology students for the required course credentials: Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) and Emergency Medical Technical (EMT).

  • Successfully prepare Public Safety students for the required course credentials: Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) and National Basic 911 Dispatch Certification.

  • Use NC CTE Standards in Health Science Education to effectively prepare and deliver lesson plans and other appropriate learning activities to enhance learning for students.

  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district

  • Organize daily classes so that demonstration, instruction, and practice can be completed within the allotted time.

  • Demonstrate health care skills, medical math, ethics, and communication skills.

  • Instruct pupils in use, care, and safe operation of medical equipment and supplies. Make minor adjustments and request repairs to equipment as required.

  • Maintain an auditable record of pupil attendance and make daily reports.

  • Control assigned district-owned equipment and supplies to prevent loss or abuse.

  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the laboratory-type classroom where several kinds of activities may be taking place simultaneously.

  • Instruct pupils in the importance to employers of ethics, accuracy, neatness, efficiency, resourcefulness, and good work habits.

  • Evaluate each pupil's performance, knowledge, and skills in the course being taught and prepare pupil progress reports and employment references.

  • Maintain continued contact with medical community and post-secondary institutions to maintain understanding of job entry requirements and current medical methods and equipment.

  • Evaluate, select, and requisition books, instructional aids, equipment, and instructional supplies and maintain required inventory records.

  • Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.

  • Other duties as assigned
