Candidates must have or be willing to enroll and complete the following: Hold a valid Career Technical Education (CTE) Culinary Arts credential -OR- Ability to qualify for the Preliminary CTE based on industry experience.

To qualify for a CTE Credential: Candidate must meet the following criteria to be considered for this credential: High School Diploma or equivalent Three (3) years (*3000 hours) of work experience directly related to the industry sector needed, with at least one year of hands-on experience, and recency of one (1) year in the last five (5) years, or two(2) years within the last ten (10) years. (Note:

One year equals a minimum of 1000 clock hours and experience may be full-time or part-time, paid or unpaid.) Qualifying Employment Verification Options: Documentation of work experience: Must be able to provide letters to document work experience by any of the following:

Employer Available Verification; Employer Unavailable Verification or Self-Employment Verification Official Transcripts - showing relevant coursework (48 semester units = two years experience) Advanced Industry Certifications (can equal one year of experience) Verification of General Education Teaching Experience (can equal one year of experience) Note: With an "Employment Offer", qualified candidates must apply for the CTE credential and subsequently must enroll in the CTE Credential Program offered through the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE). VUSD is seeking a full-time Culinary Arts instructor for its award-winning program at Vista High School. The A-G approved program will include Culinary Arts 1 & 2 as well as Baking and Pastry.

The Food Service and Hospitality pathway focuses on the key aspects of the industry. Students pursuing this career pathway have in-depth, hands-on experiences that emphasize industry awareness; sanitation and safe food handling; food and beverage production; nutrition; food service management; and customer service. Desired Candidates should stay up-to-date with current industry practices in preparing students to work in the area of Culinary Arts; make certain that the curriculum reflects current industry trends; train students for entry-level positions following the approved curriculum; teach the skills necessary for job readiness, including: *How to prepare resumes and how to interview for employment;

*Evaluate students based on skill proficiencies that directly follow the current curriculum;
